To all riders, have you guys left you cash card on your IU, and then realise that your cash card is stolen? Or when your approaching a ERP gantry then the car infront suddenly slowdown. Did he forgot to slot in CashCard?Driver slams on brakes when he sees gantry. And he did it while he was in the extreme right lane of a busy expressway.

Screech. The driver in the car behind managed to brake and stop in time.

But not a motorcycle rider behind the two cars.

The bike slammed into the second car and the rider was flung into the air, landing some 20m away.

The rider, a woman, ended up in intensive care.

I would suggest that scrap the cash card system on the IU, maybe pay by giro.

Theres are website which you can cast your votes and nominate suggestion to better living and better design..

bunch of bums who slams brakes at the last min!! lol cars can slow down put cashcard but we bikes can't :(

hmm say a device just go pass gantry and deduct from whatever system but no need cashcard, cuz cashcard leads to theft when you leave it there also. and spoilt IU needs replacement for WTF $150???

haha just some thoughts :)

i think u got the point there ... this will stop ppl from eyeing cash card from bike .. and destroy car window for the sake of cash card ... let stop all this .. by letting the LTA to do sth .... ..i strongly agree with u ..

Apparently they looked at that (monthly GIRO payment) when they introduced the IU, but the feedback was very negative. Big brother thing, invasion of privacy if the government keeps a record of where you've been in the last statement period.

What I'd like more is an IU that can be mounted inside a top-box or a glove compartment (scooter). That way we no longer have to deface our beautiful machines. Worse than being a hassle, these IUs are ****ing ugly!

Bro, i think the current system also can track where you go mah. Anyway if its between the government and you i doubt there's any invasion of privacy unless you are a criminal la.

Just my thoughts.

I don't disagree with you, I wouldn't lie awake about the invasion of privacy thing either. But I googled this and some MP gave that as his reply (in 2004 already, if I remember correctly). Still, with today's wireless technology, there's no need to have that chunky ugly wart on the front of your motorcycle. I'm sure the LTA is looking at this, my guess is the only things holding them back are (1) the switching cost and (2) apathy.

Bro, damn true. Cause this system is considered just implemented right? Not more than 10 years. Correct me i am wrong.

I'm sure motorist esp drivers wouldn't wanna change. Only maybe we bikers want to change cause its so ugly and spoils the aerodynamic shape of the bike. lol.

Maybe they should cater bikers and drivers separately. Different gadget for biker and driver.

Invasion of privacy? Come on, in the US we use things like EZ-Pass that is linked to our credit card and car registration. Every month I get a statement of where I went and how I got charged. People here (who are very concerned about privacy) don't complain. Why should sillyporeans complain? I won't.

Not to mention, in the event of an accident, the weakly mounted IU will become a danger. The mounting bracket can also cause additional injuries.

In Melbourne, Australia, there is a system which is similar to ERP. They call it as "electronic Toll". The device(IU) they use is a small electronic device (size about W=5cm, H=4cm, D=2cm) about 1/3 size of our IU. It links to the driver/rider's bank account (similar to GIRO), so everytime driver/rider pass through TOLL gantry, the deduction of the money will directly from bank account instead of cash card. Similar to what the thread started had mentioned.

Very convenient, but

There is a major problem with this device is, if the device being stolen (especially on motorcycle). Driver/rider has to go to police station make police report, go to bank cancel the registration, buy a new device and re-register with bank again. :faint: :giddy:

Actually there is a very simple solution. Just a redesign of our IU will solve the problem totally.

Instead of the current one piece IU. They should redesign the IU into two pieces. One for display of value in cashcard and an embedded transceiver, another for the card reader.

In this way we can put the card reader in a secure place and leave the cashcard inside.

There are always simple solutions to simple problems, its whether the authorities are willing to solve the problem proactively.

Since we already have the IU design, it is just a simple task of repackaging the whole thing into two pieces.

we have the exact thinking of the design.

i have wrote a few feedback. once i even include simple drawing. but i presume it was not taken into consideration becos it is not put into practice. my first feedback was 3 month after the IU system got started.

I still think we should write feedback and drawing. becos about 6-8 years ago, i wrote a feedback regarding our passport design. i illustrated that the bar code should be place on page 2, in that cal the protection cover will not be effected. it should be hard paper (equal to the cover page hardness or even harder). i give personal experience and explanation on how this design works and why the old design don't work. I did not recieve a reply too. but after many year, i see that same design i imagine appear on my new passport, can u imagine how happy i was?

I wish i will see a better iu hardware device. i know government take times. i just hope my wish come true.
