Are wheel weights optional or compulsory?

Hey All,

I've recently changed my tyres as my rear tyre is squaring off badly. Went to this shop and they added weights on the rims. I've new to the motorcycle scene and I was wondering, when do I take off the wheel weights? Must it permanently stick there?

yes, permanently there until you change tires again.. it's mainly to balance your tires..

make sure you don't take them off ... If u do, your wheels will vibrate to their destruction

Are yours clip-on types or paste-on types ?

The shop placed the paste-on type weights!

nowadays paste on ba.. clip ons will damage your rim.. LOL..

i kinda like the clip-on types

btw, @M3DU5A, the balancing weights are optional in the sense ..... if your wheel and the new tyre are perfectly balanced, then you find that you don't have any weights for that wheel.

That time some of my weights dropped off and enquire with Panjang. He just told me it is normal due to how Singapore roads are built and told me not to waste money rebalance it

agreed.. *if drop, just find back same weights and put back.. rebalance it only when you change your tires..
