Hi everyone,

I am riding a SYM GTS 200 and I  recently changed my top box from plastic to a 65l Aluminum box. As we all know that the aluminum box is heavier than the plastic one.

The weight of the box + base plate is approx. around 9kg. Just wondering if it is safe for my motorcycle rack?

Feel free to share your personal experience/encounter of what was your heaviest load in the box and tips to secure the box on the rack.

Thank you in advanced!!

i think, if you bought the rack specifically for your bike model, there would be a weight rating. if you comply with the weight rating, you should be fine.
the 65L box sounds a little too big to me, personally. (already 9kg without cargo ?)
Whether its safe or not, would depend on the material of your rack, the length of the rack arms, the mounting design and how much weight you would be carrying.
the force exerted on the rack at rest would be different when you are moving.
all these are quite dynamic and specific to your situation.

I have seen an incident where a metal box fell off a bike just last month.
not sure if it was the weight or just not secured.
but lucky there was no vehicle behind and no pedestrian around ....
just imagine the box hitting the vehicle or a bystander ....
so you may want to make sure your box won't fall off.

since this topic/thread is being brought up.

just wan to share that aluminium box is only recommended for people who ride locally without much hump.

My rack was cracked.. because of the huge aluminium box that comes with the bike since I brought 2nd hand.

So I gotten LAB for double rack. 2 different rack for the same bike to support the 1 box.

Kindly read thru at least the intro section first before decide to post any comments.... thanks...

Please proceed to this website/web link if you guys have any technical issues on Kawasaki Kips/KR150, I'll update the 1st POST as and when there's a new question. Newbies questions on the top as well. :)

yeah.. it crack the metal rack.. I was wondering what's that sound whenever I turn right side.. luckily I found one leg broken before another leg broke.. once both break.. it will swing downwards and hit my wheels.. visualise it and I could possibly have a very bad accident.. =.=
