Hi there,

I tried registering VEP twice, in Oct 2022 and Feb 2023, both got rejected as VEP is "not open to motorcycle" at this moment.

Quote

VEP Registration Date: 2015-09-01

Rejection Date: 2023-02-01

Your application was REJECTED due to the following:
Reason: Incomplete Document
Remarks: The distribution of VEP-RFID tags will be in stages. Still not open to motorcycle.

I checked discussion posted in June 2022, seems VEP wasn't required at that time?

Wonder what the latest requirement is? Can I go to JB without VEP for a Singapore 2B motorcycle?

Any tips will be appreciated.

Thanks.

I think no official news.. it's tested by people who ride across custom for petrol and they update via fb groups..

hi,

I can confirm VEP is not required.

I rode my motorbike to JB last morning and returned in the afternoon without VEP. The only document required is the passport.

By the way, the first time riding a bike to JB would be a bit worrying. Better check some Youtube videos to get familiar with the lanes. Also, I was a bit worried when I see "Insert Autopass/Cashcard or fine up to $1000" at the Woodland checkpoint. Asked someone nearby and fortunately, they told me it's not required for Singapore motorbikes.

I made a big mistake when I came back from JB. I went to the auto lane, but I thought it was a manual lane. An officer came to open the gate for me and pointed ahead saying "Overthere to get stamp", then he went away. I wasn't sure where to get the exit stamp, so I slowly drove along the road, trying to find someone who could stamp the passport for me. You can drive back to Singapore and no one stops you even if you don't have the exit stamp, but I went back to the JB border again to get the exit stamp.

luckily you did went back to get your passport stamp.. else next time = kopi session with the custom officer and fine up to 1k... It's a must to stamp on both in and out.. unless somehow you managed to went in and out of Malaysia without stamping.. 😂 (back in the days 1990s-2000s, it's possible cuz there's no gate to begin with, only Singaporean need to stop and stamp, Malaysian just rode thru)

Yup, interesting experience, and I got drenched in the rain in the afternoon. Should have brought my raincoat, though it's a crappy disposal one, but better than nothing.

If you don't mind I have one more question: What is the card supposed to be used at the City Square parking lot? I bought a Touch & Go card some time ago and loaded RM 50, but it doesn't work. Instead, I have to get a paper ticket and pay in cash.

there's an expiry date (which i think is 10yr from card manufacture date) but also it goes inactive after 1 yr of non-usage.

if the card is registered in TnG app then it will not go inactive after 1 yr of non usage. This is what i did during the covid border closure - my card still active when borders were finally opened.

the expiry date is printed on the back of the card. But if the card is very old, it may have worn off or the plastic film peeled off.

Hi Sheba, you mean you download the TnG app and register the card (not used for more than 1 yr) and the old TnG card still works?. I'll go and try this method.  Thanks for the info

that's got to be done before the one year of inactivity. Not sure if it still works after 1 yr

7-11 in Msia? Some may have it. Can try that as well as petrol stations too.

if you were referring to 7-11 in SG, i don't think they sold TNG cards. They did sell a hybrid ezlink + TNG card for a while but i think it's since sold out.

BTW Msia is selling more TnG cards this year, compared to last year. So you have a decent chance of getting it at 7-11/petrol station there if u can't get it at Lazada Msia (need a msian address for delivery)
