Lodging a complaint against them is useless.

Always get the same answer.

The drivers are warned and complaints are filed.

But no action.

On the other hand, we don't complain for the sake of complaining.

Usually it's their reckless driving that almost cost our life.

At times I really wonder, must things seriously happen before they take action?

sad to say but it is true as its always like that.. things will only change after it has happen... maybe this is how they derive "LEARN FROM MISTAKE"????? :giddy:

but i still c many taxis zooming past me when i go at 90km/h on the PIE .

Yes I noticed hat too..Sometimes to avoid being behind a taxi I go up to 120km'h just to make sure they're behind me..

Maybe to taxi drivers they think they king of the road or somethin..Just recently I was about to make a lane change to the rite to head to Terminal 2..Yes I signalled way way before making the lane change..Check and saw the taxi was quite a distance..As I gradually changed lane the taxi ZOOMED right next to me..Overtake me and abruptly made a lane change to the lane I was leaving w/out even signalling..Thank god I was quick enough to swerve back into my lane..

Another thing that puzzles me is..Why did a taxi have to horn to overtake me when there are no vehicles on the left or right (lane)? I always thought (and was taught in school) to use the horn sparingly..

Most famous reason I've heard from taxi drivers after they hit you when making turns is.."Sorry I didn't see you"..WTF? Their eyebalss cannot rotate/turn to left and right? Their necks stiff izzit cannot turn also?

I think its good to limit speeds for public transport..Taxis are public transport afterall right? Best if they have to go for some driving test annually or every 6mths..Hopefully no erratic driving..

what if one day u get retrenched and became a taxi driver due to unforeseen circumstances? and you got to be the driver of a cab at a maximum speed 90km/h vehicle? and your customer is telling you,"my child is having a fever/broken arm/broken leg, can you drive faster?" or "my grandma/grandpa/father/mother/sister/brother/ is in critical condition at the hospital, can you drive faster?"

you get slapped with a complaint that goes on national newspaper/tabloid that goes like, "my mother/father/grandpa/grandma/brother/sister died because the taxi driver was kept to speed limit of 90km/h"

ok that's an extreme situation. :cheeky:

personally, i feel that the vocational licence should include defensive driving. i know some cabbies were sent for defensive driving courses if they clocked more than 3 accidents in 6 months. be it whether they are at fault or not. how i know? i take cabs quite often when it rain. talk to them and you will understand how it's like. maybe they should go for special training on how to handle their cabs like how the TPs and ROVs will handle their WRX, volvos and BMWs.

frankly speaking, its not how fast or slow they drive.

even at slow speed can kill other.

we should target at their way /style of driving a cab.

dont you all agreed??

A second of precaution is an hour of safety. It never hurts to ask.

for your info, a taxi driver pay everyday from $90 to $110 a day for the rent, if you count in a mth, they will pay $2700 - $3300, for that money, they can buy a super car or super sport car which can be more then 5000cc car!

anyway 3000cc taxi the road tax is pay by the company, not the taxi driver. so the driver just drive, nothing can be done...

Did anyone ever mention to CITYCAB, NTUC, YELLOWTOP, etc, that it is their dumb policy and ever increasing rent that is causing all this problem of speeding ? There are enough passengers daily but cabbies always complain they cant make enough to support themselves. $30 a day or even none.

End product is a tired old man who goes back feeling SAD that he cant do much. Why? Read up the reasons on why Cab companies raise their prices. Who suffers ? The very people who drives the cabs from these companies.

For those who have uncles, aunties fathers or even your own mothers working as cab drivers, please interview them. If you have never been a cab driver, you will never understand the pain. Find the root of the problem...

actually if u limit taxi's speed to 90km/h... wat happens when they pick up someone with some urgent stuffs to attend to??

like his/her family member dying in hospital... or wife giving birth... there are tons of examples...

so i think this method will nvr work... cos not all taxis speed... and not all are reckless...

juz like putting a limiter on a blackbird... reason cos u MIGHT speed...

some ppl speed... but not all speed for no reason...:thumb:

well i do agree that sth shd be done to taxi drivers. i for one believe that they shd be educated more often, esp on topics such as tail-gating and abrupt lane changing. very often have i seen taxi drivers who lane change jus 10 metres in front of me, causing me to brake abruptly as well, which is very dangerous as it can cause a chain collision. so i sound my horn and stare at the guy, but he acts as if he didnt do anything wrong.

jus two days ago, this happened. the 4 lane road at BKE towards woodlands was majorly full and lanes 2 and 3 were at a speed of abt 80km/h. me being in a rush went to lane 1 and joined the queue goin at 110km/h. there was a car abt 10 metres in front of me and a taxi-driver was only abt 2 metres behind me. he kept high-beaming me and horned at me once. on reaching the SLE exit, traffic got better, so i switched to second lane and let him overtake me. then i switched back to the first lane, behind him with a reasonable distance and followed him all the way to woodlands where he dropped his passengers. then i asked him as to why he kept high-beaming me and horning at me and told him that tail-gating is a very dangerous thing to do. then he gave me the reason that me, a motor-cyclist was wrong to be in lane 1. so i told him right back, isnt it against the law to travel at 110km/h and tailgate at the same time? he then kept quiet and apologised. i then said that "i noe that he needs to feed his family, i too wld wanna see my family when i reach home. i can do 140km/h as well but we all have to conform to the law and observe some safety as well. its not my fault that i was lane-hogging or wad but there was a car in front of me." he then apologised then left.

moral of the story is, i think all taxi drivers shd be educated abt basic road safety. needing to find money to feed family is a crappy excuse to speed, tail-gate and abrupt lane change and cause danger to other ppl's lives jus to earn that extra buck. its not worth it i tell u. if u have a customer that has an urgent need, jus horn ONCE and high beam ONCE as well and stick ur hand out the window to tell the person in front that u have an emergency. im sure we all have rear view mirrors and wldnt mind giving way to vehicles with an emergency right?

in short, an emergency or the need to feed ur family doesnt permit u to speed(unnecesarily), tail-gate or abrupt lane change. taxi drivers still need to follow the traffic rules and observe some safety.

I don't think the textbooks in Class 3 lessons explains to drivers how motorcyclists should ride, right?

I just don't see why so many taxi drivers and other drivers keep thinking that motorcyclist SHOULD ride in BETWEEN LANES and SHOULD NOT be in the FAST LANE.

I for one always ride in the center of the lanes and get stuck in traffic jams just like cars, for the safety of them and myself.

Dude sometimes when a vehicles overtake a motorcycle they horn(soft tone) to warn you that he is going to overtake you to prevent accident/side swerve.Just let them pass you lor,No hram what?In a traffic jam who got the advantage? So must be flexible on the road. You give way people will give you way back. Not everytime we want to win right?
