Just to chk bro, with ur experience in biking, ur probably aware of the situation of kawa in SG. Taking into consideration the cost & avail of spares, how do u intend to overcome that for ur Ninja 300?

this one about @Baal asking in another thread about the perception that kawa spares are expensive and hard to find. i share my own biking experience only, others who may know more pls feel free to chip in.

based on my ownership of a CBR600RR for the past 8 years, i realized that the main bulk of parts for regular maintenance are generic parts and do not need brand-specific parts. therefore the main bulk of your regular maintenance you are unlikely to experience any issue of rarity or expensive.

a small portion of parts that may wear out may need brand-specific parts. typically, these parts that will wear out, are either stocked by the authorised distributors or parts traders like FJT. and your workshop always buy from either these two types. you rarely need to replace these parts especially if less than 5 years.

the problem is if you buang and you require model-specific replacement parts that people don't normally need. what if you buang and need Ninja300 fairing? or dashboard? or piston, or something?

only in this instance you may have a problem. the fact is, the authorised distributors can order any of these parts direct from the factory. thats the whole point of being an authorised distributor. the problem is sometimes they dont play ball with your workshop. they will just tell your workshop 'no stock' and not order it for you. because they want you to go to them for the service instead of your workshop.

so 99% you are not going to face issues. that 1% *touch wood* buang or something, i donno.

Thanks for sharing bro. Insightful. Guess the once every few yrs part will be things like the electric coil, rectifier & engine internals. But if I know that the "time" is round the corner, I suppose I could place order via own shop & get the part in the next few weeks? Sorry, FJT refers to? Can SG bike shop order from them? Price wise similar to Honda/Yamaha ? I read deep into the part on the dont play ball.....jialat man !!! wah lao eh !!

1997 TZR 125 - 1998 FZ 150 - 1999 GSXR 400K - 1999 RX 100 - 2000 LC 125 - 2001 TZR 125 - 2002 CB 400 Ver S - 2006 CBR 929 - 2006 GETZ 1.4 - 2009 STEED 400 - 2016 ???

FJT is a small shop deep inside Desker Road. the shop is like a small warehouse selling various parts of bikes, of every manufacturer. i donno if they carry every single part, but you'd be surprised obscure parts they stock. example, when i needed bolts and nuts for my previous CBR600RR fairing, the kind cannot find anywhere except Honda, and cannot use any bolt and nut from DIY shop, FJT sold it. they will take out a catalogue of your bike model with all the parts, and you point out which part you want to buy. they're not the only such shop. and workshops do buy from them.

yes you're right about the brand-specific parts. but even rectifier is not model or brand specific, and coil in theory is not something that wears off every few years; assuming no big screw-up in reliability, it should last longer than 10. i certainly never needed to change it in 8 years of ownership. engine internals, definitely, but these should also be sold by shops like FJT.

by the way, the AD not playing ball part, i have no specific AD in mind coz i haven experienced it before. but i know such things happen in general.

Thanks bro. But for FJT, since they know the situation for certain brands, do they mark up & capitalise on that?.....but yet maintain a little lower than AD?

Oh and also, do you happen to know if the AD in SG is the same as that for Malaysia. Kawa.

thanks for the info, at least i know if my bike is affected i will get a recall letter. probably the only advantage from going with authorised dealer. pity the owners who bought from PI which brought over i think from europe.

yes i think must keep it there. there will need to inspect watever recall item, replace and record. how long the bike will be there is a question mark, after all its a free service. if they keep it there for a week, who you gonna complain to, and who else is gonna supply the recall item if not them....

buying PI does not mean its not covered for recall parts. If ur buying from a reputble shop, they will definitely do the same as what evershine is doing for recall units. regardless the parts ccomes from kawa to all bikes purchase doesnt matter from europe africa or wherever. my z800 also had its ABS recalled for some reason and my PI bike also get its replacement parts without issues.

for anyones info, z800 is not gona be brought in by the agent. so if u want it u have to buy from other places that bring it in. there are tons of z800 on the msian roads. parts wont be an issue, the kawa factory where the bikes are assembled are all in thailand anyways. cheers

sorry, i realli dont know more than that. i dun have comparison of price between FJT and AD's. nor do i know whether Evershine (Kawa AD) is same parent company as Malaysia's Kawa AD.

i can tell you one thing though. when i dropped my CBR600RR last time and needed to replace one signal light housing, my workshop's 'source' quoted $60 just for the housing. my mech straight told me expensive and "maybe i can find somewhere else myself". i do not know his 'source' is AD or trader like FJT. but then i went to Regina's, exact same part like the original, right down to the embossed part number on the orange screen.... for $20. consider the mark up yourself bro. it did not occur to me last time to ask my mech what his 'source' was, but certainly its not him doing the marking up because he himself reluctant to get me the part in the end.

Thanks bro. Guess at 1/3 the price its worth it, Even if its meticulously faked in China since its not a critical moving part. Appreciate. :thumb:

Hi, anything changed after 6 years? maybe new AD or better support? I'm looking for a 2A bike ninjia 400.

@slowdownman Not really. No need AD but the Ninja 400 is seemingly a pretty popular bike in Singapore. Hope more workshops bring in their spare parts and modification parts.
