I've been away from bikes for way too long, so I have completely no idea.

Asking on behalf of my brother, he's looking to get a 2nd hand bike for transport. He only has 2B license and prefers something automatic, but he's open to suggestions for manual (although he hasn't been riding for years either). His requirements are low FC & maintenance with decent storage space. He doesn't care for looks. He works in town and workplace is less than 20 minutes from home. He is looking to spend no more than $5k OTR.

Any advice?

Hi,

try to find a 4-stroker and if possible a manual bike. Those automatic 2B bikes that run on belting are more expensive to maintain since belting need to change every 3000km. (can check with the seniors here in the forum. Of course you can decide to change once its broken. but I reckon it will cost more, since the torn belting will be slapping (and possibly spoiling) the components around it :cry: ... at least thats what I've been told.)

Cubs are cheap to maintain and have good FC. Storage? can put the "basket" and also top box. spare parts are readily available and relatively cheap. (cubs are popular in these region, i.e from indonesia to indo-china for a reason :p)

Or manual 125cc naked road bikes made by yamaha and honda.

These suggestions are within your budget of $5K, with the 3.5 - 5 years coe range, if 2nd-hand.

Hope our Lao Jiaos of this forum will post their replies soon.

Just my $0.02 :angel: Cheers!

YBR125 is the best in regards to fuel consumption (up to 400km per tank) But if still want auto transmission go for a new scooter. Use as short term as after 3yrs the maintenance is going to be high.

Go for a fz150i. Its cheaper in a long run. Tried 450km/tank. Wonderful engine. Perky and relaxing

i would suggest cubs...either x1R or Wave as u mentioned ur brother looking for 2nd hand bikes. Wave is no more in production but maintenance wise, very cheap and parts are widely available almost everywhere. FC wise very good.

2010-2012 ------> Bajaj Pulsar 180

2012-2013 ------> Yamaha Cygnus X

2013- as of today -> BMW (Bus Mrt Walk)
