Bro, damn rich people can buy a brand new Porsche with cash but I can only afford to buy a Japanese Sports so I guess I'm still far far far away from that position.

anyway it's all relative and sometimes one gets more fun and satisfaction out of an old GTO compared to a new Evo.

Cheers

Well what can i say, for some one who own a car and earning 3.5k a month but spend 1.5k on his car compare to me earning 2.5k a month but only spend like 400 bucks a month on my cheap altantic  Feels so less financially burden and can buy anything i want without much thoughts... Last time when i bought my super 4 i only installment from my friend 6 months, in the end i have to pay monthly installment of almost 1200 a month which is equavilent to owning a car (havent add in all other costs :giddy: )... I was so hard up on cash every end of month that i decided not to own a car dont want to go back to those days again when i have to think twice whenever i want to buy something.

Not to mention that whenever travelling on peak hours on CTE i am 5 times faster than them... Not to mention the ease of finding parking lots in crowded places...

But during raining days and sunny days :faint: And whenever i see motorbike accident on expressway :faint:

Bottom Line is dont get yourself financially burden to the extent that you cant do the things you want buy the things you like.

DRIVE TO WORK not WORK TO DRIVE!!

PS: still wish to own a car though... wait till i have higher salary ah... haiz

When you are single. Earning more than 3K and use around 1.2k to pay for car. It may still affordable.

But when you are married, with Kids and etc ... household income is around 6k and use around 1.2k to pay for car. I think it will be a bit tight.... and both have to be working all the time.

Just need to calculate and do it with your best mean. I think it is always good to have spare $$$ in pockets.

To add on to Draco's,

even when single earning only $3k ++ must be careful about buying car.

you need to make sure that you have saved some backup cash first.

especially since most people buy a car with more than 50% loan.

those who buy a bar with 100% loan better have a well-calculated plan or sure lose money super big time. dont bite off more than one can chew, thats basically what we have been repeating.

right... it is not wrong to take up loan with interest.

Just do within limit and not over sketching the pocket should be fine. With spare cash for rainy days ... that will be the best.

I should say....

different families have different kinda sibling relationship...

It really varies...

I dun really like to drive unless its raining

so I'll always ask my sis to take my car...

really dun like seeing it lying alone in the car park...

But she finds it troublesome and rather go public sometimes...

Thats true of course. it varies.

but the situation is probably very different for you marvy.

I reckon if it's your car, your sister didnt pay for it.

also it seems like she either doesnt go out much or she dreads driving for various reasons as you have pointed. You are kind enough to let her drive since you already expressed your preference to ride. therefore certainly no conflicts in your case.

Anyway, I feel that car rental companies are being greatly hit by the lowered COE prices....

Ppl are buying cars not becos there's a real need, but becos the price is good...

for first timers, guess it'll definitely be good to find out wat other overheads are there to maintain a car in Sg before getting one.

Duno is it appropriate to post here or post new thread

But anyway here's the question, how many months can u fellas here survive without a job while still got a car to maintain

For me i no need to worry as i got no car, only a little honda cub :cheeky:

Posted

Not an issue for me as i always budget properly. Car is almost fully paid anyway.

But if got no job then it may not warrant me driving a car of that price.

So maybe get a cheaper Jap car loh..

to enforce Draco's point,

to spend ~$1k per mth on car, i householdn income ~$10K also find it very siong. still need to save for kids education, retirement, emergency cash & for other things in life like oversea holiday, hobbies ect :giddy:
