Guys guys, if one is able to save 4-5k per month for a tenor of 20 yrs, one will be able to retire comfortably anywhere in the world on a humble scale. Remember to use part of this savings to purchase a life insurance which will be exceed your returns, compared to saving a/c interest. The rest of your money, do remember to pamper yourself.

Yes, on a humble scale..........:(

20 years X 60K per year = 1.2 Mil  good healthy sum to retire

imagine throw the 1.2mil intoa landed property and collect rental. i think also got 5-8K rent monthly.

fWAhhhhhhh.... i think if super ultra duper frugal and discipline.

And provided drawing a 5 figure sum monthly.

dude you thinking could be too simple and you forgot about many other things.

Time value of money, inflation, unforeseeable expenses due to family and other things. Rental also have to pay taxes and bear certain property damage etc. uncertainty of market = loss of capital/equity....

$1.2mil in cash right now if you are 60 yrs old with house and everything fully paid, kids grown up, have their own lives. Yes can retire fairly comfortably.

but if only $1.2mil cash and many more years to live and property not paid up, kids not grown up, definitely cannot retire fully yet.

to those who are considering buying a car now, i would advise you to think twice. you better have some heap of savings. it's going to be rough for the next 2 yrs at least.

rough? yeah man, in the ocean/sea context, this is the period where the plate movement beneath the sea bed already start to move ! hehe, so wats next, huge amount of water being displaced and generates huge waves gushing at speeds capable of mass destruction:angel: matter of ritcher scale reading only.

Tough times are here to stay for the next few years, dont buy a car unless you can truly afford it. dont take huge long car loans which form a big part of your salary. It WILL kill you.

Take heed.

nowadays cars seem relatively cheap compared to previously, so those with cash getting their first car can take a bit of advantage.

however, i think it's still wiser to wait til qtr1 09.

Renting has its woes and it can be very harsh. Taking a taxi has lesser problems but of course you don't have the space for 'privacy'.

i tried rental, those coop schemes, i ended paying more than taking taxi, that's when i decided to get a car instead.

if not frequently need to drive around, rental is a good option.
