accident happened opposite UC, b4 the hump. He saw a car turning in, squeezed brakes a tad too hard and flipped. Pain in his neck, collarbone and chest when I saw him.

stop nit picking lah. Language is alive and evolves. When enough people say the wrong thing, it becomes the right thing. Then again, who qualifies what is right and what is wrong? There are many variants of "Englishes". Of course, there isn't much of a rights discourse in Singapore, so we follow the governments prerogative. I don't really bother about how "good" my or others' english is because it has to do with a great deal of perception and social issues. To excel in SG, all you need to do is have the ability to code-switch between the "standard" and the local variety. Thats all there is to it. What gives people the right to impose their language views on others? The answer is either power or the majority.

 

 

While Im at it, heres some food for thought: "None is" vs "None are"?

 

With mass nouns, you have to use the singular. ("None of the

wheat is...") With count nouns, you can use either the singular or

the plural. ("None of the books is..." or "None of the books

are...") Usually, the plural sounds more natural, unless you're

trying to emphasize the idea of "not one", or if the words that

follow work better in the singular.

 

 

MOE's answer and most assessment books' answers are: None of the boys is going to the party.

 

Which I disagree. Of course lah, im not gonna draw out a syntax tree to explain. Its pretty obvious which one sounds more natural.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Back to Irregardless, if I was a Singaporean teacher, I would not accept the word. In other domains, I would accept the word and I also understand the context for its use. Thats all there is to it. The people in power kicks ass woot! But a bottom-up approach with grassroots or even individual efforts can change the course of language.

 

 

P.s. This piece of text is not directed at anyone in particular, its just a summation of my views. It is also not following any narrative, expository or argumentative structure because I like chaos. Avant-garde perhaps? or an exhibit of lazyness on my part to structure things. Jumpa lagi people!

Update on Xianyu:

 

He is currently warded in NUH Ward 43 Bed 28. He's currently awaiting doctor's approval to discharge. Might be tomorrow morning or tonight depending on the doctor. Suffered bruises and swollen parts over his body. Major problem is swollen collarbone leading to some neck pains.

 

He jammed brakes when he noticed a car slowed down last minute to go over a hump and he flipped over. No damage to the car only self skidded.

 

Any visitors tonite? Me might be going over at 7pm.. Please msg me if u wanna tag along!

ok..

i m doing a prototype of office building for tropical climate like Singapore.

issues: the current building strategies are not ideal for out climate conditions. here, we must consider the energy consumption of current buildings. cooling plays the biggest part.

so, i m tackling this problem from outwards to inwards.. starting with the building envelope (facade).. performative facade systems that can help reduce the cooling load and still not compromise on the daylighting and the "outward looking" views we all want..
