speaking of cats.. i opened my canvas this morning and i was shocked to see a cat sitting comfortably on my tank.. wah lau. for like 3 secs i look at the cat... the cat look at me.. then it jumped down n run away.. i'm going to put a super-sensitive anti-cat alarm on my bike which will trigger a dog's bark upon sensing a nearby cat.. cool eh?

had an accident on sunday nite, 26th august 2007. after tt alot of ppl sms and msn msg me, so i thot i might as well share the story here so tt i won't repeat it over n over again...everytime i repeat my heart aches for my bike, which is lying at the bikeshop. thanks alot for everyone who contacted me to see if i'm ok. love u all.

so here goes.

i was on my innocent way home after a dinner outing w my family in orchard, with my family taking the mrt home while i rode home. taking stevens rd to bt timah rd, i then turned right at the junction near king albert park mac's, into jalan anak bukit, which would have then led to upper bt timah rd and then hillview, home. an everyday route i took.

but when i was on jalan anak bukit, going under the bt timah sevenmile flyover, i kept to the right lane because there were cars coming out of the entrance of bt timah plaza n sherwood towers. negotiating the left bend, there was another car parked in the pit reserved for authorised vehicles, so i continued taking the left bend in the right lane.

since i had just came out of the junction at KAP mac's, and adjusted the lanes to avoid all the cars, i was going slow and taking the bend in a relaxed, crusing pace. then in the left bend, i felt the bike losing traction in the rear wheel. my instintive correction was to straighten up the bike to avoid lowsiding (bad move...), but the curb was just metres away frm me.

so, the front wheel scrapedand went up the curb. at this moment the bike was starting to fly, and i let go of the bike as both me n my bike were properly midair.

i flew for a short space of time, and landed and slid on my right side (hips, elbows, head) and skidded to a stop in a grass clearing. amazingly i missed all the lampposts, signposts and trees (there were many...).

the bike, however, tipped into an upside down position midair (forward roll- style) due to the impact of front wheel on curb, and landed on the grass patch beyond the curb, gouging a drainlike groove on the grass patch until it became the concrete walkway. at this pt, the lining of the windscreen, right corner of the windscreen, right portion of the head fairing were left behind as the bike continued to slide on the concrete walkway. gashing the top of the petrol tank near the gas cap, tearing a little hole in the tank bra, breaking the screen brace, detaching my right mirror, cracking the iu unit, bending the frame slider, bending the head fairing and headlight stay, detaching my front brake reservoir, cracking my tail fairing and bending the subframe, my 200+kg bike came to rest on its right side after sliding all that 5-8m on its own weight.

getting up n checking if i was OK, and after ascertaining i was still in 1 piece, i ran over to my bike, cut the engine and tried to push it up. couldn't do it. walked over to the other side n tried pulling it up, couldn't do it too. then i saw all the brake fluid emptying out onto the bike, and the petrol leaking out of the overflow tubes, i buay tahan alr, and managed to push the bike upright from the right side finally.

then i realised tt the front wheel was on the grass, the rear wheel was on the grass on the other side of the concrete pavement. my bike was see-sawed on the pavement which was raised, and i had no strength to push the optimus prime on either side to get it on enough ground to set the side stand. (can imagine?)

so i propped the bike against my ass n started sms-ing and calling (this part i skip to spare u all the pain of having to read more...).

the rest i can narrate at a faster pace.

darryl, a frd of mine, came to the accident scene quickly, we pushed the bike out of the see-saw position. tow truck came n parked in the pit on the other side of the road. we pushed the bike over n loaded the bike up the tow truck.

another m'sian kup came along n crashed in the same spot i did.

the rider lay prone near the spot i slid to a stop earlier on. we ran to him n helped him up. the poor dude takes the same route hm after work everyday, his bike, however, could be started, and he, insisting on riding hm despite an injured shoulder, left with 2 other of his frds, also on m'sian kups.

tow truck, family members(who rushed down) and gf n her mum (who also rushed down) left. darryl and i waited for caleb, who was on the way.

taxi went past us and NEARLY skidded off the road at the same spot where me and the m'sian kup rider crashed.

caleb came. we went to my place where i got my wounds attended to.

scratches on my right side- back, shoulder, elbows, waist. 1 little char siew on my right hip. bruises on all the points tt contacted the rd. 1 bup on my head behind my right ear, sore neck, shoulders, limbs.

i was freaking lucky.

the accident is my fault at losing control of the vehicle, my technique could've been more refined, (eg, controlling the stupid skid), but the sha qi tt day quite strong..nearly became 3 accidents at the same spot. my bikeshop boss says i suay, tt time of the month, haha.

more likely there was something on the road like a patch of diesel or something. keep chirpy, dude, you're going to really enjoy taking a shower for a week or so.

hey weiquan... your friend posted in my thread in chatterbox... i wrote something like 2 accidents at the same spot at the same day. aniway, i also been v suay in this 7th mth..first time so suay... which is totally unexplainable, guess i'm gonna stop riding for a while. no pt going against the bad forces which are all coming towards me.

Dear friends,

I was just browsing through the thread and I realised that I have not included some of you that signed up for Ride Safe 2007. If i have not contacted you for your personal details, you are not registered. Please accept my humble apologies.

Our forum at http://www.nusriders.org is the official club forum and signups for all outings/events will take place there. This is for ease of our administration and also due to the fact that we have a membership roster there, which means i can contact you by phone/email if required. It's hard over here because I don't have the contacts of every nickname.

I also understand that many of you have trouble posting on the main forum. I am trying as best as I can to fix the problem quickly. In the meantime, I ask for your patience. If you can, try to get a friend to sign up for you, or use the school network.

We are currently in progress with the creation of our NUSRiders mailing list, hopefully that helps with the problem at hand too.

Thanks for your kind understanding.

Regards,

Kevin
