hahah, when I went down with my dad, there were harley's all over the place.. and a vrod with massive rear tires! does he work alone? pretty friendly guy, but understand he's very busy as well.

maybe its better if you went down there personally? He does seem to have time for a short frendly chat :thumb:

its a y2k registered bike, so warranty disappeared years ago :) Currently checking with ah yee though

How'd you manage to live with that sound for 1000 km?! I dont think im as patient as you, hahah. Ill get the alignment and tensions checked as you suggested. But just curious why (most?) other riders dont seem to experience this.. unless its really a belt problem.

thanks for the input

as for mine, i could only hear a faint sounds of the belt when im travelling at carpark speed, anything more than tat , i dun hear it... after a few weekend rides.. its went away..

maybe cos my bike is relatively new n very low mileage, the sound came from running in the belt.. hehe.. but everything's ok now... did ask the agent to do a check n all seems well ;p :cheeky:

since yours is still relatively new everything's and still covered by warranty it makes sense to head down to alexandra for a check up. If i go there it'll be labour (per hour) plus parts.. which aint cheap!

but problem has been diagnosed as wheel bearings needing a change, and an oil leak at front fork. Not sure if that was a factor.. but getting it changed. My leather shoes got a free oil coating due to the oil flying back, looking very shiny :cheeky:

thanks once again for the suggestions and comments.

One more thing.. aNyone selliNg SaddLe bAgs?? Looking for bags for 883 sportster, or anyone who knows anyone selling.. kindly pm me..

thanks in advance!

Dont kick me for saying this.

Saddle bags dont go with sportsters as the bike is already "butt heavy"

Makes the bike look damn out of place.

Totally agree with you there Throttle....For Sportsters, it's best to keep it clean and free from any bulky outlook, now that's unless you are taking your Sportster on a long cross country ride e.g. Singapore to China or something like that lah....But for Singapore road riding, leave it as it is....

I know of sportster saddle bags that looks pretty good. Provided you willing to pay 3-500 for it. Otherwise just get a tank bag. I wasn't willing to spend that much money nor had the chance to try it out hence I didn't. Duh :chekky:

Anyone knows what is the tire pressure for a 2006 Night Train?

For the front it's 30 PSI / 207kPa.

For the rear:-

solo - 38 PSI / 262 kPa

rider with pillion - 42 PSI / 290 kPa

Btw, did you just get your Nightrain?

207 for front? Isn't that a bit low? I'm not sure but for all my previous and current bike, it's at least 220-240 for front. My 2 cents.

It sounds like it doesn't it. It's stated in the manual though. I reckon it is due to the skinny 2.15 inch tyre.

the sound only comes when the bike is moving, and im quite sure its not the brakes. Most likely from belt. Hmm.. its not squeaking, so not from fork, and not the screech sound from brakes (i know that sound from my phantom)

And the screeching sound is well above the exhaust note, so its pretty irritating. In fact the screeching is heard first before the pipe! (running on state 49's)

Going back to dealer tomorrow, hopefully it'll be rectified then.

Thanks all for the input! :cheeky:

i have the same problem with my king...its the belt....usually happen while riding in the rain or after having a bath.....what i will do is spray the belt lubricant and hell it went .....damn irritating sound

I've been playing with the idea of getting saddles for my Sporty for convenience. As far as I have seen, only the HD GMA hard-leather covered type matches the lines of the XL family. Have not done so coz I haven't been able to convince myself to mess up the look of my bike  (I still may do it one day, but see how first)

To answer your question "how do I carry stuff around?" I have a tiny sissybar bag for some rags & tools & parking coupuns. A backpack for stuff that is absolutely necessary when I go for work.

:btw: for most bikers, the more space they have, the more junk they carry... I used to be like that as well...

germs

you can consider a fork pouch + a fender pouch.

should be enough to put essentials.

if you need more luggage on your bike, then perhaps a Sporty is really not the bike for you. maybe electra glide or road king?

sorry , i am straight-talking.

plse dont be offended

I was looking at the hard leather bags off ebay, they look alrite by itself.. but no idea how it'll look on the bike! i think ill tell my dad to use a backpack for his office stuff. He tried balancing it on the tank the first day and it was slipping off. He ended up sitting on the papers.

kiamh if you decide to put on saddlebags anytime soon can u send me a pic? ill let him know how bad it looks and hopefully he'll decide against it

no offense taken bro. Honesty appreciated :)

its more of a convenience thing.. rather than style. Im still getting to grips with the size of the sportster, i dont think ill ever manage to handle a rd king or glide! :cheeky: im thin and scrawny, even my phantom looks a bit big for me! i guess for now ill take up the advice on the backpack and the pouch (never knew hd's had pouches)

the only luggage being carried is office documents and parking coupons, i guess a bagpack's enoughhh

o_O Are you kidding me? Waiting for me to experiment so that you can have a sample of HOW BAD IT LOOKS? no thanks buddy... search the internet for pics of sporty with saddles. Don't wait for me.

If you think convenience is more important than style, why bother to discourage the saddlebags.

You don't even know what you want, huh? Make up your mind first, that will help.

So is the noise from the belt still there? It's a kind of chirping noise when you accelerate right? Change the belt and it would be gone.. but it'll come back after awhile. Check the rear wheel alignment as that might be the prob. I've had my belt chirping for about 50,000km and it's still chirping! Leave it alone and you would get used to it la!

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?

yes contradicting thoughts as I havent yet made up my mind, so im sitting on the fence. Did have a look on the net at sportsters with bags. For now ill stick to the backpack idea you mentioned, and if need be maybe saddle bags later on.

cheers

its a very loud chirping noise whenever the bike moves, accelerating or not. The noise did come back even after changing wheel bearings, so applied lubricant, and sound's disappeared (for now). Thats quite a distance you've travelled with that sound though!
