Don't know him personally. If he works there he should be friendly if you're asking him about enquires. Maybe just a bad day for him...... :)

Just to share my experience. I've asked the guy before (He owns the orange sportster that is always parked outside) about the bracket for ERP IU.

Didn't get quite a nice/friendly reply from him. Couldn't be bad day again? Or maybe cause I was driving that day (and I don't look like a HD guy) instead of riding so he can't be bothered to answer my query nicely. Better off asking guys in this forum. ;-)

Some nice sportie pics...

Nice pics christine55! Especially the 2nd one.... Loved the way it flows.

p/s: By the way, any idea how much it would cost to rebuild or overhaul an engine? The bike I had is around 10 years old now. Was thinking of getting it checked and parts replaced. Any things I should look for? Where is a good place to get it done? And most importantly, the scope of work and approx costs?

@xzinx:

After 10 years, if you have regular service and also well looked after, probably you do not need an engine overhaul. Depends on how hard you ride and also the mileage you have done.

You can get a quote from the dealership but basic level could be something like this:

1. remove and replace all seals and gaskets

2. check piston rings - replace if necessary

3. electrics and cables - need replacing?

4. carb perhaps may need some rejetting or tuning

5. belt, cams, heads, rockers... this one you will need to get the workshop guys to help decide whether it needs changing. Not saying that they must be replaced, but better to tell the workshop folks your riding style and also annual or monthly mileage so that they can beter advice whether your components need to overhaul/change or not.

Unless you have racked up a lot of mileage on your bike, you probably do not need an overhaul. Simple riding in singapore and even to malaysia should still be ok. Can save costs. a full overhaul could easily costs ?S$2k depending on what is done to it.

6. suspension and forks - ok? if not, forks may need new springs and you may need new suspension.

7. there is quite a few more but hard to suggest without first looking and understanding your bike more.

best is to start working on reliability and safety first. then performance n then cosmetics in your rebuild/overhaul schedule.

maybe start with a budget with S$500?

cheers

Christine55,

Thanks for the info, i was trying to guess which year the Low Rider was. 2005, guess it would be running on EFI already......

Btw, how did you know? Were you that neighbours wife? Ha ha. Just kidding, a bit of lunch time humour. Thanks once again. Cheers :thumb:

Ya, i saw at Sunhogs, one of the bikes, they actually put the IU at the sides near your legs so you can't actually see it and easily reached. Wouldn't spoilt the image of your bike. Nice. :p

@donjuan:

The low rider is black and chromed out. It is quite nice and has mini back rest and 1 piece moulded seat for 2. As for efi or carbby? I am not sure. 2005 do have carb versions but very limited. best is to call and check.

Sunhogs has an IU bracket that relocates your IU from your handlebars to your engine guard using clamps. It is very tidy and neat and most importantly, even though quite low, it works well. They will even put a nylon black IU cover for you. You can install this yourself as it is way easy to do. the design is great.

I am not sure how to do it if you dont have engine guards though. Maybe it is possible to clamp onto the frame of the bike but it may be a bit too hot and also not sure if it can be read at that angle. the clamps are too small to clamp onto your forks.

cheers

Thanks for the info bro. Nah, it's ok. I roughly know how to make the bracket. A few plates, welds here and there and bolt it on to the side of the engine under the air filter unit. Save some $$$.. Hehehehhe.

p/s: Must ride more and drive less....Petrol is going up, up, up...

Woah christine55 (bro? sis?).. As always, you are always detailed about your replies. I really appreciate that.

Anyway, I just got the bike for about 6+months now. I don't know how regular it has been serviced or what is the milage (cuz the owner sold me the bike without the speedometer).

I was thinking of going to Rosli this Saturday to get a quote? What do you think? Is it possible? I don't know how bad the damage is. But the bike is still rideable. Of course, I will go for engine reliability and safety first.

Maybe if you are free, you can assess my bike for me first? Don't want to be a carrot. Hehehhehe.

p/s: Btw, where did you get the 2nd pic of the bike from? Is there an online album for it. It's quite nice. Wanted a closer look.

@xzinx:

I got the photos mostly from my old photo archive. whenever i come across a nice bike, i would save it or take a photo. there are a lot of custom builds out there using different platforms. as many harleys there are out there, sometimes, its hard to find a good nice build using the harley as the platform.

More to come.

cheers

If you go to the dealership, it's about $7200++. Thats when they change ALMOST every bearing, seal, gasket, o-ring and shaft and so on and so forth. I think you can tell them to change things that they think might need changing but I have no idea. One of my friends did that at the dealership and the price range was around there.

Alternatively, you can go to Tony, Ah Yee, Francis/A*Meng or Combine, Sunhog, Rosli to get it done for less than half the price :thumb:

Your choice la bro.. :cheer:

It's your damn bike, wash it yourself! You rinse your own mouth after you eat, don't you?
