Saw jade's bike just now, forward block being reassembled. Its gonna be ready very soon! :thumb:

Coolcat : after riding sometime, I observe that this happens on my bike too. It might be the engine overheating. The problem went away when I used colder plugs, but colder plugs make cold starts harder.

Thanks man .... will monitor the situation, was hoping for feedback from fello M400s. Hey, some of my rider frens got booked for speeding, esp along small roads, and the underpass near Tuas checkpoint. Careful guys.

Cheers

I occasionally see a TP patrol car camping right after the "crest" of the tunnel, catching those who can't switch back to "singapore" mode. Its quite a change issn't it? After going at triple digit speeds all day long, then having to switch back strictly to 90km/h...

OK! Thanks! I'll be getting my bike this afternoon - finally!! :cheer:

Wanna make a guess how much it'll cost me?

Posted

My guess is parts alone is about $350 to $400.

I did basically the same thing as you in december, but my belts are cheaper, and I replaced both piston rings ($240).

Posted

My labour alone is more expensive than the parts.

Total bill was over $700, of which $420 is labour cost... :giddy: :giddy:

Hi to all

Is it me or is that too much??my 10k servicing at minerva "only" cost $500 although like you said labour was about 1/2 the cost...could it be some other parts?I service mi monster too at mike's and so far he's quite ok with price n service

Posted

just asking all ya monstor experts ard...

where you guys go look for 2nd hand monstors?

wats the avg price like? 400cc type :)

I'll stand corrected, but I think that the M400 is not a bike that can juz walk into any bike shop and one will be there. First thing is that there muz be one out there for sale. Good place to go would be to check with the shops that deal with the bike e.g. Minerva, Kallang Cycle etc and then hopefully there's some one letting go.

Another way is to leave a note for a Duke that you see, and maybe the owner can be given a nudge to sell.

Good to scan the forum regularly too.

Cheers

Those are not the most expensive parts. It's the labour costs that kills me....

I think the parts/items are pretty much standard.

As for the labour, unless you know how to DIY, I guess it's better to

put in the hands of someone who has experience.

However, I recall I was quoted $200 for labour for change of timing belt/valve clearance for my ST4. Meng Tong from Louis quoted me abt $100 plus....

Can't really recall but I think ur labour charge abit on the high side...

Mux say that most monster buyers have a problem .. they view bike and then got problem in deciding whether to buy, cos' half the time they don't even know if the bike "sounds" or handle right, cos' duke not common in the first place to make a good comparison.

I had this problem when I viewed my bike, then decided to go right ahead after another monstor rider gave it a once over and his thots on it. First servicing was about $400+ but the feeling is great when I know that the bike has a clean bill of health.

As for labour charges, well, I believe that Minerva charges about $50 per hour for labour, and I love it when they give a breakdown in the bill e.g. change this part = 0.5 hour = $25 and i believe that it is according to a standard scale, which is very fair. I mean, at least I know how they work and why it cost that amount.

So NEO, you sold your termis yet?

Cheers

My first servicing costs $400 (New KnN air filter, simple tuning, engine oil, oil filter, oil cooler)

2nd servicing costs $600 ($150 labour) (Change belts, piston rings, valve clearance, gaskets (cos they were leaking), check of gearbox and clutch for knocking noise).

Noise persisted after 2nd servicing, so went do Kallang Cycle for 3rd servicing one month later

3rd servicing costs $1300 ($420 labour) :faint:

Change gaskets (AGAIN, cos still leaking), alternator coil $450, conrods ($250), valve seats, engine oil, oil filter, spark plugs, fuel overflow lines, re-jetted carbs, retorqued all major engine components.

I hope I'll never have to go through this again~! :faint:

Posted

3rd servicing was done cos 2nd servicing didn't solve any of the knocking sounds (I told the mech to change whatever is needed, cos it doesn't sound good. Mechanic said too expensive to replace, so just put everything back together)

Well, I think I would not have been so pissed should the job had been done right the first time. Oh well, lesson learnt :( Anyway, my bike feels very good now, like a brand new bike, makes it worth all the trouble :D

Posted

Wow after spending all those $$ still din solve the problem din you went back to make noise and demand them to redo?? You are too kind.

From what I see its a exepnsive bike to maintain, but f you like and can afford it then its ok.
