A Monster 400 is not that different from a say, Super4. Try replacing the piston rings on your Super4, it might add up to a higher cost. The major parts are the ones which costs alot, Labour well, seems like its a case of what you pay is what you get.

I don't like mechanics to work on my bikes half heartedly, if I go back and complain, he will have to strip my bike apart and fix it, do you think he is gonna do the job wholeheartedly?

I know I wouldn't.

Anyway, noticed when I rev, my RPM will settle slowly back to idling, as opposed to quick drop. is this normal?

Not normal bike is running too lean, if the tacho needle drops below the idle then rise up bike when ram mean its running too rich

Not sure its the same for Ducati, better let your mech check the tunning.

What mileage you have on your bike, how come need to replace piston ring? My colleague riding his Super4 ver S for 8 years over 100,000km also never see him do engine overhaul.

Super4 is liquid cooled, so its more reliable compared to the air cooled Monster.

Mine has about 80,000km on the clock. The forward cylinder's piston ring wasn't sealing very well, so had it replaced as a preventive measure. They come in pairs, so have to replace both. This is most probably due to poor running in.

In fact, most of the problems Ducati bikes face is due to poor maintenance/workmanship, not poor design.

My bike is still leaking! Still seeing oil on the ground where I parked. I need to change my chain and sprockets as well! Mike quoted me some $200+++++ I won't change it at Kallang Cycle if I can help it.

Any idea if chain and sprockets are any different from earlier models?

Sigh... maybe I shoud have gone to Minerva in the 1st place?

Jade : I changed my chain and sprockets (EK X-ring) for $190 at HKL. My advice is, change there (or anywhere else which is cheap) at your own risk. I can recommend you some reputable bike shops to change the chain and sprockets, noneed to go to Ducati specialists, leave the engine to them.

As for the oil leaking issue, go back to Kallang Cycle to ask about it.

Monsters can go touring too!

Covered about 1000km in two days for my trip to Frasers over the weekend. Only suffered a blown ignition fuse on my way to the first rest stop

I went to Kallang Cycle over the wkend. Told Michael difficult to change between 1st & 2nd gear. He just mingle with the clutch lever.

Then told him brakes got sound, he just say change brake pads...

So I assume he doesn't want to do my bike?

My bike needs some tuning cos I have the same problem as coolcat + irregular idling...

How's service at Minerva? Long waiting? Dun want to leave bike there...
