The pillion seat is not as comfortable as a phantom seat. Could be smaller than a super four's seat. Riding position is definitely more aggressive, leaning/sloping forward a bit. Why not test the seat instead?

 

As for the price of the FQ bike, it depends on the condition as the price can vary from $3k as seen in garage sale now to 8.5k, just sold last month. It depends on if coe is renewed at 1k, then you have to factor in this cost. If the tank and frame is good paint then you save about $500 to redo. If got aftermarket pipes (legal GPRs) you save $1350. If got twin disc brakes and upgraded pump, (then you save >$500 - 700). If got overhauled engine, the you save near $1.5k - $2k. If you have seat cowl, you save $200. If you have oil cooler installed, then you save $300. If you have front cowl and windscreen, you save another $200 or more. If the tires are new, you save $330. If the sprocket is AFAM then you save $195 for rear and $55 for front. And then there is the cost of the bike as well. So you factor in all these... you can see why some bikes are worth more than others. You spend more to enjoy the bike out of the workshop and out on twisty roads more. It is not that Ducati owners are unreasonable in their asking price just by looking at the price itself. The condition matters. If the bike is in crap shape and he is asking for $8k then you know what to do. Most owners of good condition Ducatis will only sell it to people they trust to maintain and service the bike diligently. Most on this thread have spent more money than the cost of many 2A bikes to get the ideal monster. The love for the monster is immeasurable and only the rider will know the pricelessness. Others can only talk about it being expensive and unreliable and high maintenance.

 

i think all of us have spent more then the cost of any 916 eating japanese carb/efi v-twin bike. and still think thats its more fun to ride

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! I'm gonna write down some of the prices and things you mentioned. My first ride was a Phantom, which although I enjoyed, found the riding position too laid back. Been thinking, dreaming, and lusting over a Monster for a long time already. Love the looks, the sound, and everything about the bike! Been reading this thread, and can really tell the passion that you guys have for your Monster, and care that needs to go into the bike. Really hoping to find the right Monster for myself, and join you guys soon

Yup M400 is only 398cc only but its the style, sound and passion... Ducati passion..!! 10 years++ old bike & it still look as good and sexy.. thats y we all ride one..

Forgot to add. Cone/head bearings plus labour $200+. Loud horn $55. Carbon fibre hugger, mudguards, sliders, bar end balancers, mirrors, tail chop, aftermarket indicators, seat rewrapping, steel braided brake hoses, clutch slave cylinder. If you see the things that you can add to a monster, suddenly 8.5k is a bargain. Of course you can always get a common 400cc jap bike that does the job. But bear in mind you also have to spend quite a fair bit to customize to your liking. Pay peanuts get monkeys haha. Long time never hear this saying already.

i can only suspect that this is under max load.over inflating will bring grips lower than optimum required.

i ride like a faggot on normal roads lar. but so far so good, FC is brilliant. no slipping and sliding, i'm a happy man. i trust my poofter..

 

i guess most of us are looking for maximum grip, not durability.

with a contact patch the width of your palm, its the only contact points between u and the road. use it wisely

different needs i guess. as for me, i travel more than 2000km a month. Woodlands - Tekong - Woodlands everyday, spending more time upright. so no choice have to balance between grip and durability..
