Hmm haven't tried a TDM before...is it really down on power? Handling should be poorer since it's not really built for handling.

Haha he's my friend, he rides a TDM with lots of aftermarket stuff on it. Can approach him for help if you wanna modify your new bike..

Has anyone here done a pre-2004 dual swingarm to single swingarm conversion? Not much data on how to do it.

 

I know that there's a monster out there with a conversion; but some had said that it is an entire 748 rear-end rather than a conversion.

 

Appreciate any info.

If mating a SSSA to a frame designed to accept a DSSA isn't a conversion, what is then?

Oops, I have to rephrase myself. I bought my bike at KC, but I wasnt there on last Friday. I was at Carl's Junior instead in the evening.

 

If it was the other yellow monster you are talking about, I met the owner on Sat morning while he collected his bike.

LOL~~~!! sorry sorry!! its on sat, not friday, I mean... I'm Alan that is the owner that collected the bike on sat...

 

Do you remember that I told you about my bike having problem reaching 110km/h, now with the magic touch of Michael :thumb:

 

Lucky you didnt buy my this bike, I think it really need to undergo major surgery. I still having difficulty starting my bike, my "EX" mech told me that the single / one way starter (cant remember what he said) need to be changed and it cost $450 :cry:

EHHHH its along jalan bersa after 219 motorshop on the right side there is a huge eugene's seats sign. Very good service , not rushed at all so be prepared to wait. I got it at 100 bucks which really seemed reasonable given the quality

Not sure if you mean the starter motor, but it thats it, I'm pretty sure you can get parts off the ebay in a jiffy and cheap as well. (consult some of the seniors here, I'm sure they are walking encyclopedias) :angel:

 

Don't worry about 2nd hand stuff. When you're on a budget, it all about trying to get the best outta your money. Its a learning curve as well.

 

I remembered my old days while struggling to maintain an age old Extrema with my allowances and part time work. So hang in there, you'd get out of this with alot more knowledge and a wiser person.

Forgive me if I am not clear. To me the conversion involves the mounting of a SSSA and the retention of the monster frame. I do stand corrected if the grafting of an entire rear end to accomplish this is absolutely necessary and cannot be avoided.

 

There is just too little info on the conversion available. Looks like there are only about 5 recorded conversions from my research on the net.

Kawasaki starters may work as well. Ask mike he might be able to Frankenstein it for you. The old man and his trusty screwdriver are an amazing team..

Ya.. viewing ebay daily to check for great deal, lol.. checking for stuff to fix.

 

Kawasaki starters may work as well. Ask mike he might be able to Frankenstein it for you. The old man and his trusty screwdriver are an amazing team..

Er, perhaps if I may, shed some light on this conversion.

 

You will need practically the whole rear end off a donor bike - the SSS, shock and linkage, complete rear wheel with brake disc, caliper & sprocket.

 

The SSS has to be mounted on the engine case and the casings have to be 'shimmed' i.e. machined to fit. Then mounting points have to be welded on to the frame to accommodate the top linkage of the rear shock and ride adjuster . After all this, you have to reconfigure a new exhaust system because your existing one will not fit.

 

Trust me, it's a lot of work and frankly not worth the effort now. This conversion was done because there were no monsters with SSS from Ducati back then. Now you can buy one off the shelf.

 

Just to do this SSS conversion will set you back thousands of $$$. You are better off just buying an existing monster with SSS.

If I am not wrong, the man who did it in SG has spoken. The monster 996 is a legend. Michael said that he will not do it again as it was a lot of work.

When it comes to bikes, I only see red…

Thanks for the intro. Michael and I are friends since the 70s. We undertook this project as a challenge and it took 4 years to complete. The project was a money pit, easily > 10K.:faint:
