Advancing or retarding ur timing ignition can be done by pros only. Normally the timing ignition are set by the manufacturer. The setting is in the manual. I know for cars they use a timing gun to flash and the belt and if its out of sync the words cant be seen. Tats for cars la.

 

Normally its done when you have the timing belt or timing chain replaced. Or whenever the cams are removed. Power gain i dun think you gonna have lots of gain. When i mess with my car's timing ignition sometimes the revs become irratic. Worse is when the engine starts to ping. Its better to leave to a professional.
