one more additional suggestion for hotel.

 

I would usually go to the "bus stop - travel agent" look at the price listed on the hotel and book the room there.

 

History: i remember the price there is cheaper then walk in. usually i just buy the amount of day i wish to stay at the agent. walk to the hotel and present to the counter the receipt.

if u have time,go to Sukhothai Historical Park. There are 2 Sukhothais, 12km apart. I stayed at New Sukhothai town n rode over to Old Sukhothai to visit the historical park. 100bht/entry and 20bht for bike. u can ride your bike in. sunset time is the best,thai time 5pm.

 

i can PM u my thai friend's hp if u want it,PM me to confirm. He opens a Bak Kut Teh cum Timsum shop in Hatyai, a go-to-guy for me when i need to book hotel rooms and basically get around town in the early beginning. Now i just make my way to his shop for a hearty breakfast every morning i'm in Hatyai. I cant comment on his food coz we all have different taste,but i eat it every time i'm there.

 

when at Maehongson,u can stay at Friend's Guesthouse, 150bht/nite for communal bathroom and 250bht/nite for attached bathroom. it is a small family run guesthouse and u can rent a bike at 200bht/day from PA,which is just next to the guesthouse. I always stay there,very nice people u'll meet staying there.It is also 3 min walk to the MHS nite bazaar. dont get MHS tees at the bazaar,ride around and u can get them at half the price.It's a very,very small town,dont need map.

 

if u do need to buy the MHS sticker and collect the cert,it's at the road directly across the nite bazaar. open 8.30am-5pm. i am still wondering why they do that for(the cert/stickers).

 

also at the place u rent the bike,they'll give u a self drawn map to visit the interesting places around. go to Mae Aw(MUST GO),it's a 45km ride away,along the way will pass by Fish Cave and other interesting places.go in the morning ,can be back by 3 in the afternoon.

I stayed hatyai merlin 20 years back ....infact just went there

to eat tim sum at bah kut tehs...(near neo hatyai hotel) so much has changed

last time whole street fish tank.

 

Im making some drastic change to my journey now, may head other direction.

Hi mi5trooper, I am interested if the travelling is at a leisurely pace.

I think 23 -26 June is a better date because is it not school holidays and the place and roads will not be so crowded and hotels will be cheaper too.

And a stop over in Malaysia is a good idea because it is too tiring to ride that long a time at one go.

sigh.. this is super embrassing. my leave got rejected (15min ago). my boss tell me only early june or early july. reason he say is end of june is the busy time where no body should take leave.

in about 1-2 week time. we will have a small and short gathering (for those who are going only). This gathering is for all to meet each other. team building action.
