Hi newbie here

Heard that the average age group for FJR owners are quite senior, so what's the age group in this forum or the "Red Hill" group?

Anyone using sliders? Saw at foreign website, MOKO sliders looked good, anyone using it, any local agent for that?

Lun, heard that the bike is easily heated up, caught in a jam, easily can hit up to 3-4 bar at the indicator, so did you do any to counter it? OEM windscreen not high enough, so are U having the aftermkt? Does not affect the handling with the tall windscreen?

Err.. anyone go beyond the M'sia & Thai border, can give some reviews, txs!

Keen on FJR13..... $26k OTR kills.....Insurance kills too....:slapforehead:

Honestly speaking, both are not so practical if the bike is to use in sg travelling only. Fjr and blackbird are both heavy bike, long wheel-base, making parking in common carpark, lots etc more troublesome. Nevertheless, I think most people buy these bike because of their interest and passion.

FJR- the basic maintance are quite similar to S4 with the additional of a drive shaft. As i hab not ride her long enuff, i couldn't tell you when it valve clearance interval etc. Apart of her weight, wind shield is still not high enuff for me. Analog Meter in Miles reading also need some time to get use to it.

If you looking into x11, do u ever consider Frazer1? I personally think it a good bike for touring too. Fit in a box, a higher windshield and a scotholier, it is as wonderful. Moreover you can find FZ1 with accessories in bike shops now..

was tinking of fazer1 too.. but the body frame n size too small for moi built.....

wot about the heat transmission for fjr whn stopping n moving off??? tink moz pple get fjr is for passion of riding... it got moz of wot a tourer n racer shud hv.. n for a cheaper price~~

anyway.. still sourcing around for a better n economical bike.. but at the moment. fjr is the one.. hahhaa~~ hope to go work soonz.. den can affor liaoz... or else super siong....

Moko sliders are quite cosy but from what i read up in FJR forum, it the most recomanded slider for FJR. If i am not wrong it cost near S$200 ?. I doubt there a agent for this product in SG.

Installation of MOKO slider: http://www.micapeak.com/bike/FJR1300/howto/MokoSliders.html

Alternative, you can get the TOG (Tip over guard) from Fjrgoodies. It cost US$46.49 (Include shipping charges to SG). There is no drilling required to install them, all you have to do is remove a existing fairing screw and replace it with the longer one included in the kit. The whole process takes about 5 to 10 minutes.

In sg, i did checked up about motivation sliders, cost wise is around the same as TOG but it require a 50mm hole to be drilled on the fairing.

Heat issue is not a very big problem here. If you have been riding fairing bike before, you should able to get use to it. The average running temp is at 2 bars. During traffic juntion held up, it rises the max to 3 bars. The fan will turn on on the 4th bar. You will feel the heat after the fan is turned on. The worst i get in SG is 4bars, nothing higher than that. That is when i am stucked in heavy traffic jam.

My pervious bike Blackbird get more heaty than FJR.

I am still using the stock windshield. It 40mm higher than the older model. For me, at a height of 1.7m, the windshield couldn;t provide a very good head wind protection. I need to lower my head a bit in order to be able to shield from the wind and a much silent riding. There a option to get the Yamaha Windshield which is 100mm higher than the 1st version, I didn;t ask about the cost but from the other original accessories that i enquired from Hong Leong, i can predict that it will be quite cosy as well. (FJR matching top box costs $1300+)

I have ride up to thailand with her yet, but have done several short trips in malayisa. Overall is quite good. I am satisfy with her performance and handling etc.

Some small notes:

1) My shoe and pant stay dry even in wet road and slight drizzling.

2) Fuel consumption is even better than what i managed to squeeze out in SG.

3) Headlight with OEM bulbs is bright and quite well spreaded. Each side pannier is not that huge. Able to squeeze 1 FF helmet with a set of raincoat each.

4) Seat is quite comfortable and there ample of seating space for both rider and pillion.

5) Stronger engine braking power as compared to my Blackbird.

6) One minus point: My right hand feel a bit numb after covering some distance. I found from FJR forum that some riders are also facing the same problem. They put up some suggestion by lowering the throttle spring etc on the net.

Hope above will helps.

If you mean how fast the temp built up when struck in a traffic and how fast the temp drop back to the normal zone upon moving off==>

The temp will remain 2 bars if you struck in a traffic let say 2-3min. It will rise up to 3bar after that and still it will not activate the fan yet. If compared to BB, Blackbird build up heat faster than FJR but after moving off, it cool down quite fast. On the other hand, if 4bar is on the FJR, she will need some time to cool down after moving off. Hope you understand what i am trying to explain.

Frazer1 ya, quite small frame. But the seat, the riding postion is also very nice. If you have been riding bike like Haya, BB.. u might find the tank a bit small to grip.

Lun, Thanks for the info, paiseh for all the enquiries....

:thumb: Regarding this carbon fiber Engine armour and sliders, too bad, I can't have them.... but once I got my FJR, sure will consider. Just read a thread from a foreign website, it's one of the accessories to get after the sliders. I think the engine cover and the fairing set would cost more than the price of a pair of sliders and the Carbon engine armour. Furthermore the Euro $ kept rising, better get early.

Regarding that qtns of mine, coz saw a few times while refilling at Gelang Patah, the average age group of FJR are ard 40 plus onwards, so jus wondering what's the age group in this forum? And oso heard from frens that usually they don't appeared on forum leh.

Saw the foreign FJR13 owners, cut the Belly pan for better cooling, and with our weather here, super hot during afternoon sun, worried for the heat of the bike. :bouncefire:

My right hand feel a bit numb after covering some distance.

Besides adjusting the throttle spring, would the handlebar risers or better grip be a help? Is it stated down what causes the numbness?:help:

Err... having a matching OEM top box for $1300, might as well go for aftermkt GIVI or Hepco Becker boxes. Talking of Hepco Becker, last week at Suntec basement carpark, saw this grey FJR with a Hepco Becker top box, looked much chio and better constructed than GIVI boxes leh. Sorry no hard feelings for GIVI owners. Must be very XXX. Next on my list, for now NATO.:thumb:

I dunno about the rest. I am below 25 =).

I read about owners cutting slots in their bellypan too, but for me, i rather keep the belly pan as it is.

About the numb issue, i can't find the exact reason for it, but i think it due to a tighter spring. I reckon it is not due to vibration as my left hand feel prefectly fine.

I will change the grip to form typed and see whether it helps or not.

Just switch my engine oil to semi syth motul 10w40. Previously was ESSO 4T gold.

Just wanna share some info about the new oil:

1) Engine seem quieter, Bike run smoother.

2) Bike warmed up faster in the morning.

3) Bike now get heated up faster. When was on ESSO gold, bike mostly stay in the 2 bar zone even at traffic hold-up. Now, on the semi, temp go up to 3bar.

Just bleeded my brake lines as well, at 24k mileage, front brake fluid has turned a bit brownish. Even after bleeded by Snap-On vacuum pump, brake still feel a little spongy. Had anyone change their line to kelvar line? Any comments?

Motax33, if I got my hand to FJR13, sure will get one from you, for now said said oni, if you don't mind.

I am below 25 =).

Lun, Wow brother next renewal of of insurance going to burn your pocket one big hole leh.

Changing to Kelvar or steel braided brake hose, more or less do helps in the braking. I'm having one set of HEL brake hose on my bike, it does makes some different in braking. But some felt that there isn't much on their bikes. I wonder?

Too bad, my most trustworthy mechanic had passed away last Nov, if not can direct you to him for fixing your brake.

Found this thread on hand numbness....

Hi FJR Riders,

Was wondering, anyone here experiencing the ticking sound in the engine? I nearly bought a 1½ year old FJR, but didn't, because I find that the ticking sound in the engine to be a little disturbing. Read in other FJR forums that Yamaha has identified the problem with the valve stem sleeve (or something like that), and have offered to change the affected bikes cylinder head (yes, not just the valve sleeve, but the whole cylinder head).

So, anyone can shed a light on this issue, because I am really keen on buying the FJR.

Haiz.. I'll give my views den..

The thing is, since everyone has the ticking problem, it seems normal to have it.. If u know wat i mean..

The problems that can arise from this valve stem thingy are poor fuel consumption and loss of power.. SO I've always monitored my fuel consumption to make sure there's no extreme drop in efficiency..
