Hello there fellow riders, my friend and I are planning to ride up to Krabi and we are currently doing research and preparation for the ride. Was hoping that some veterans here could give us some pointers.

Both of us are relatively new to long distance touring. My friend rode up to Malacca with his K7 before and I did Hatyai with RVF. Details of my Hatyai ride is quite vague as it has been quite awhile. We are currently riding a Fz1n and a Z1000.

We were hoping some kakis here could share some insights pertaining to the ride up there. Suggestions of places to stay, precautions, route to take and other useful information. The last time I was in Hatyai, I did not refuel as I read something about E10 gasohol there may cause gaskets to harden. As this time round refuelling is a must to reach Krabi, we are wondering if there is any alternatives or precautions that we ought to know.

Any tips or pointers would be helpful. Thanks in advance guys.

Thank you for that information. One worry off the chest. How about road conditions from Hatyai to Krabi? Should we ride at night to avoid traffic or otherwise?

Hotel

Try booking.com or Agoda.com for a hotel/resort with carpark at Ao Nang Beach area. Got Swensen, Macdonalds, Pizza Hut... if you get tired of local food.

It's the gateway for trips to the many islands for snorkeling/diving/kayaking, etc.

I normally stay at Ao Nang Grand Inn, which is just opposite the Mac. Parking is by the road side in front of the lobby. Try others if you don't feel safe (Ao Nang Beach Resort?).

Don't waste time staying in Krabi Town. There's nothing much there.

Roads

Try not to travel at night. The road surface is generally very reflective (worst when it rains). So glaring from the head lights that you can't see anything else.

It's 300km away from Hatyai. Can always pump petrol at Trang (150km). Thai petrol is ok but I usually pump 95, about 35thb per liter.

Danger? Only for a short distance between Phatthalung and Trang where the road goes into forested area and only 1-lane each way (not sure they expanded?). Take your time.

Do not speed. Unlike Malaysia, the highway passes through towns and villages with dogs, cows and other road users crossing the road at any time.

Some Places to visit

1. Tiger Cave Temple. Can climb to hill top big Buddha statue (via 1237 steps) and super nice view all round. N8.123822, E98.924555

2. Hot Spring. A hot stream that connects with river. N7.931246, E99.206075

3. Emerald Pool. N7.923107, E99.259883

4. Shell Cemetery. N8.02273, E98.883602

Emergency Tow can call Jay @ 91829923 (hopefully number no change). He can fetch directly from Thailand.

2017

11 - 25 Nov - 15D, Taiwan - Fly and Scoot

2018

7 - 15 Apr - 9D, Phuket and Hatyai Songkran

17 Nov to 2 Dec - 16D, North East Thailand (Issan)

2019

30 Mar to 7 Apr - 9D Korea/Jeju Fly and Ride

8 - 24 Nov - 16D, Mae Hong Son

There is mechanic (Big Bike Shop) in Hatyai, across the road from Florida hotel.

In Thung Song (route 41) there is a shop that specialises in big bikes too. Owners are called Game and Tata, they are avid tourers and speak english, very very friendly bunch.

Thx sprocket.. Been to Big bike Shop, got my custom RvF fairings there.. Anyway, what is the best timing to move out from Hatyai to Krabi? Best scenario is to be in daylight and least traffic. Any suggestion anyone?

Best timing to go to krabi from hatyai is early morning probably around 8am then you'll reach krabi about noon.. Not that far about 4hrs with comfortable speed.

Most important of all.....

You need the LTA document to prove you are the rightful owner of the bike you want to bring into Thailand.

If not, you may have to U-Turn to Singapore.
