half cluth means slipping your clutch. because it is not in full contact with your engine it means that your clutch pads are rubbing against it (rather than turning with it) n hence being worn out faster. if you ride with your clutch half-engaged from point A to B, you can be sure it will be burnt by the time u reach your destination, with a very nasty smell.

most ppl half clutch to smoothen their ride. but try not to do it so often.

tat depends on ur rpm. usually half clutch at low rpm aka first gear, around 2k rpm - 3k rpm, should not be a problem.

recently i half clutch on 2nd and 3rd gear too. feeling not too good as clutch plates are worn our faster den usual.

No more regrets.

What do you mean by doing half clutch? Does it mean applying the half clutch technique to change gear?

Meaning Close throttle, Clutch in, up/down gear, half clutch, throttle, let go clutch

Or do you mean hold half clutch all the way to try and wheelie?

So the rest of you guys just clutch in and throw clutch after first gear? From what I can imagine, the purpose of half clutch is to get the gear to rotate in an increasing manner before engaging. If just throw clutch wouldnt there be a lot of shear stress on the shaft connecting to the clutch plates?

i think he meant maintaining the half-clutch position, not slowly releasing the clutch. nobody throws their clutch unless they wanna wheelie or have a really bumpy ride.

i use 1/2 clutch when squeezing through traffic.

What about releasing the clutch very suddenly when shifting from gear 1 to gear 5? any harm to any part?

:)
