Yupz... Take a look at how its done, then get yourself a patch kit which comes with the tools. Next time can DIY and save yourself some money.

Go for the M5. Good reviews I heard and read. Another tyre on par is the Pirelli Angel ST.

Looks like the M5 are getting really good reviews by riders here. Very tempted to try on mynext tyre change. The Angel ST is tempting me too...

But if compare the same type of tyres like Angel ST, Battlax BT-021/023 the price range is there... You pay for good stuff.

Agreed, paying the price for a good lasting pair of rubbers.

Am getting more & more confident on my Mich's PR2 than the previous BT-021.

After having scrubbed for 500+ kms, the tires are seemingly more easily to be seasoned faster than the BTs.

More confidence in wet and corners too.

& it seems wanting me to go lower in corners...

Hello Fellow S4 Riders,

Hope to get some info on when to change tires.

Was a little confused. Some says:

1. Change when the thread depth is less than 2mm.

2. Change when the rubber starts to turn hard.

3. Change when rubber smoothen.

Usually ride to work and back, speed is about 70-90, seldom hit 100, average 1000km per month. Front 240 and back 280.

Any recommendations on the brand to use?

Is the pressure the norm?

Many Thanks in advance for the tips :)

i think thats pretty typical of michelin tyres. same things happened to me after using many types of BT's for so long.

Hi Gurus.. Need Advices from you

I just bought a Spec 1 from a Bike Shop. Current tires are Dunlop Arrowmax GT501, which are wearing off soon. I have no confidence to take corners with these tires during wet days.

Which New tires do you recommended that will not harden so fast becos of low usage. Treadwear doesn't really matters bcos of average mileage per year is 8000KM.

1. Bridgestone Battlax BT090

2. Metzeler Sportec M3

3. Metzeler Sportec M5

4. Michelin Pilot Road 2

5. Pirelli Angel ST

Hi Bro,

1. Change when the tread depth is less than 2mm.

#Correct. That is minimun requirement for wet rd riding. U can find triangle logo treadwear indicator on the tyre side wall pointing direction to chk tread groove depth condition. U will fail the yearly inspection if the tread less than 2mm.

2. Change when the rubber starts to turn hard.

#Correct. Harden condition equalant to slipness. Usually the tire will start going hard after 3 yrs from manufactured date. It will also causes u fail the inspection.

3. Change when rubber smoothen.

Do u means when botak?.

#Incorrect. Depends to yr & others riders safety consideration. U r qualified to receive summon from traffic police anytime bcoz accident chasing u at the back.

#Pls change yr tyre with which come 1st of the mentioned above.

The rear tyre has met an impromptu death due partly to the roads I have ridden in (alpine, snowy, tarmac rough roads) and due to copping a puncture about 6000km in to life of the tyre after which unknowingly rode 30-40km with pretty much very low psi on the way to a ride meet which caused unnecessary extra wear and tear to the tyre that fast tracked it's death. Ended up getting close to 10000km out of the rear, which despite doing all the roads I did and the puncture is a good result. If used solely for commuting I'm confident it will be able to get 15000-20000km of life out of the rear.

On the positive side despite the rear looking the way it did and riding thru treachearous conditions on the Great Ocean Road this weekend where I clocked up 1000km of riding and for the whole duration while these tyres were on the bike I never experienced a slide, slip, lockup of any sort on either the front or back. This is a part of the Great Ocean Road, if you zoom in you will see it has a great view and very very high corner ratio. Due to rockfalls from recent heavy rain parts of the road were closed but the roads were covered in rock, dirt, debris, water etc.

I'm sold on the grip these tyres offer in the wet and dry and will definitely get them again soon. The bike has been dropped off to the machanic getting a new Michelin Pilot Road II put on it due to the popular reviews read about it here and elsewhere.

You even manage to blister your front tyres... What pressure you running on both your M5s?

I've taken it on a lot of roads with varying surfaces so the tyres have copped a beating. Front 34-36 & rear 36-38 though after rear puncture and repairing it myself it was ever so slightly letting air out which meant I had to keep pumping air in to it every 2nd day.
