Custom Bike Rims

Harlow, I am new to this forum so nice to meet all of yah.

I was reading some Bike magazines at Popular Bookshop the other day. The Foreign Magazines have advertisments for Custom-made Bike rims. The local magazines only have dealers and imported rims. I've a few questions I hope you guys out there can enlighten me.

 

1st: Any of you know if the LTA/ Traffic Police have sum regulations on the design and type of rims that Bike in Singapore can use? As far as I can see, the LTA website has a pretty general ruling about it. Thats all.

 

2nd: I've researched abit into rim manufacturing and customization. Its quite interesting. Besides the Big names and branded stuff out there. There seems to be no local dealers dealing in making custom rims locally. Although, its a nich business. Do you think Singaporeans are ready for the Custom era? Is there a market for Custom Sports/ Show Rims locally?

 

3rd: Do any of you know any local companies/ Bike shops doing such custom rim business here in Singapore? Can recommend me?

Hi, I'm riding a humble Phantom T200. Waiting to qualify for my Class 2 end of this year. This is a research market project I'm looking into. Will keep you updated but so far I'm not getting the type of response I was hoping for in all my postings.

well... i gez the general rule with the authorities is....do but dun get caught.... but my personal opinion which dun mean sh*t.... is if cars can have fancy rims, why can't bikes. Dun think you will run into any problems with regards to legality of it....

 

the main reason why there ain't that many after market rims in singapore is due to its cost.... i previously came across a thread here abt a guy who bought a pair of rims for $4K....not sure $US or S$.....

 

So if i'm reading you correctly, sure it would be a niche businesss to get into, provided you can sell it at a price that is affordable to the masses. Imagine u make a rim for the honda phantom..... i'm sure it'll sell like hot cakes.....
