Title says all guys.

I was just servicing my bike and my mechanic got it quite dirty with his hands, so he cleaned it up abit for me, I think he used petrol to clean it, the stain makrs came right off, but I was curious if it's ok for the laquer or the paint job (if it runs it down or anything).

Cheers guys.

Im using WD40 to clean of dirty and consistent stains. other den that, it is better to use normal wax IMHO

No more regrets.

I think it's quite harmful for painted/matt surfaces right?!

Unless it's metal, I would think it's best to avoid.

It's definitely bad for your clearcoat. (BTW it's not lacquer)

Don't let anyone do that in future. I'd suggest you change mechanics!

Sorry I was just being naughty saying the wood thinggy....

Anyway what you get sprayed over your original fuel tank is called clear coat. It's not conventional lacquer. Clear coat will have some limited protection from petroleum based products like petrol, diesel etc. and is much more hardy but lacquer does not.

Lacquer will turn yellow when exposed to the sun, and will also turn yellow when you put it in contact with petrol for a period of time.

This is why you can tell the difference between an original fuel tank and one that has been resprayed by a cheap painter.

Professional painters use clear coat (it's not cheap). I think they're made from different ingredients.
