Any opinions on the promo and on the lenovo Y300 laptop freebie?

yeah .. its another laptop ..

 

singnet with many PhD-ed brains had once again came out a irresistible deal. the Lenovo Y300 is a above average laptop. the selling point is small form factor (13.3", while maintaining wide xga as a 14.1"), free vista (for those bill gates supporters) and a the built in camera (for cyber sez .. i mean msn ..)

 

the draw backs are:

- its a core duo (not a c2d), but not really a big problem if u're not running rich multimedia program like rendering, etc.

 

- 512MB RAM (a bit less for vista). vista is a thirsty hippo .. 512 is just nice for booting up .. (maybe a bit over-exaggerated, but still quite true)

 

- a bit noisy dvd drive. might give problem in long run. then again, MIGHT only.

 

- 2.2kg makes it quite a good dumbbell. (slightly heavy for a 13.3", but macbook is near there too)

 

its a good bargain if u're looking for a laptop and 10mbps connection. the main worry is the 30mths contract .. broadband is definitely here to stay, it will be faster and cheaper in the near future.

 

with respect to regional countries, prices for broadband service (adsl/cable/optical) had taken great plunges ... prices are cheaper by >50% and speed had increased >100%.

 

now back to singnet promo .. if you sign up the 30 mth contract @ $83 per month and 10mths later, the price for broadband takes a dive and assuming a 30mbps by then sells at $49.90 per month, then u will be a real carrot head for the next 20mths.

 

well, technology comes with a hefty price tag .. this is just my 2 cent worth .. but bear in mind, the 100mbps is already in the pipeline.

laptop?? ..if its for the laptop and not the 10mbps, walk into any harvey norma and swpi your plastic for a 12 or 24mths interest free deal ... beats the singnet broadband deal anytime ..
