I do believe tat the gprs function is mainly used to update the maps in the fone , u cant juz use GPRS to connect to the GPS satellites . Anyway , m using the N95 , so most of the map updating is done thru wifi on my home wireless broadband .

Anyway , being out in the open will have one being able to recieve the the satlellites input easier than in areas like orchard . N its quite hard to get a satellite fix on a "cold start" , most need at least 1 min to get a fix .

they use the satellites dishes that we needed for gprs connnection to bounce the signal from gps satellites. this increases the number of found gps satellites around the region and get the best 4 out of it..

:)

Need Advice

Hi there,i'm interested on buying this handphone and intend to use it while riding. That means I have to mount it on the handle bar.Have you tried doing that?

Secondly,I'm not familiar with Route66 map software and I'm wondering if it is the same as Mapking 2007 where you can search places of interest like MRT,Shopping Centre,Religious Place-Mosque or Church :etc,Petrol Station and many more. And does it enables you to find the nearest place like petrol station and navigate the way there?

I have doubts in buying a Nokia 6110 and a 2nd hand pocket pc with separate GPS module(coz i'm familiar with Mapking and use it before on my previous pocket pc)

I hope you can share with me with some of your experience on this Nokia 6110.Thanx,appreciate for time.

mapking can be used on 6110 navigator ... can be bought at $99 or theres a way to get it for free ... take note that both route66 and mapking doesn't really map the shortest route for you but the auto-reroute takes care of it ... if u agar agar know ur way there .... +- 40m error though

Thanx for the pictures Enhanzed,is that ram mount the one you order tru the mass order from one of your members here?

I think this ram mount is not available here in Singapore rite and you have order it online, correct me if im wrong.Furthermore is not that cheap rite.

From the picture, the installation is only by U-bolts so that means in order to use the ram mount, you have to install and un-install it to prevent from theft.

i tried to organise a mass order but there was no demand ...so i went ahead with the order with another forumer ..iirc it cost $95 .... the U bolt mount dunt have to be uninstalled ...only the arm and cradle ...which i put into my top box when not in use

IMO dedicated GPS systems for touring should be used if theres really a need for GPS travelling...

but of course.. it means carrying another device.. and extra cost...

have been reading up some info regarding the 6110 and i found out that we can actually get free map from nokia at smart2go.

so have anyone actually download maps from there? i know the voice navigation need money to activate it, but does those maps from smart2go still show u where to turn left and right on the phone? and if you miss the turn, will it give u another route? i.e to say, to perform the same as the original route66 maps other than minus away the voice navi with free and more updated map?

will it also show us the speed we are and other information like the total distance travel and etc?

hope those user of 6110 can enlighten me b4 i throw in my cash. thanks in advance!

My 6110 Navi hangs when i switch between "pages". U guys got this problem? Seems like the RAM not enough like that... :(

Otherwise, it is a good navi phone.

Won't the phone drop off during cornering or strong acceleration? o_O

Have been using this phone for the past 8 months, free GPS software that does a 'OK' job especially when using the headset for voice navigation. Can't really look at the screen while riding....

Just wish that Nokia would update the 6110's 2006 Map without charging an arm and a leg. I think they are being very greedy to charge monthly subscription on their new 6210 phone. I don't mind paying for new maps but to charge subscription on the same Map is pure greed.o_O

Cause my friend say sometime have to wait very long to activate GPS.Anyone had this problem?

So had to confirm before buying.

Depending on the window film type, GPS works worst with V-Kool Films.

Yes, ur friend is not wrong, if possible let the GPS connect 1st b4 moving off, or else connection time is longer.

In covered carparks, it's no connection at all.

But overall, I think it is a pretty acceptable GPS phone - handy when u need one any time. :thumb:

tats quite strange lor... usually it connects in about 5. Use ceramic films like Huper Optik or Llumar, etc.
