[HELP] Tyre problem (?)

Hi guys,

 

On Tues (04 Feb), my tubeless tyre was punctured by some stupid thing, so I called the mobile repair service to fix it. He patched my tyre up, and pumped air for me, but to confirm the PSI is right, I went to a petrol station to pump 47 PSI. However, yesterday, I realised that there were some holes at the spot where the tyre was patched up (with some kind of brown/red colored strip). The repairman did spray the soapy water to detect for leaks on the day of repair, there were no leaks, but yesterday I noticed some really small holes.

 

Today while riding to and from school, I realised my bike was acting weird, but the tyre looked ok. I went to the petrol station to pump air to make sure nothing is wrong (Caltex), and set it to 325kPa (ard 47PSI). But when I started pumping the air, the meter started at 290kPa (42 PSI). Is this how the pump normally is or am I just paranoid?

it may mean it is leaking but if u are riding alot just before pumping the reading wont be accurate. o

Sorry for asking this, but I've never seen this kind of high pressure for a bike tire in my life.

Most tire manufacturer recommend not greater than 42PSI if I remember correctly.

Did you check the recommended tire pressure for your front and rear tire according to the sticker located on your bike or manual?

What kind of bike are you riding?

 

Tire should be pumped at cold, will be more accurate, if pumped after hot(riding), pressure will be higher at the gauge display.

I'm riding a Yamaha Fino, 14" rims, tubeless tyres. Front wheel's limit is 43P, rear is 49P. I pumped 41 for the front wheel, 47 for the rear. Michelin M29S for both tyres.

Did a quick check on HL site about fino, it states front/rear=> 34/40PSI so you might want to check and confirm again the tire pressure with your bike manual.

Your pressure seems over inflated and it's best to check with your mech/workshop.

If your pressure is currently @42, then check & monitor regularly to ensure it stays the same or slightly lower(small leak is normal)

Look at the tire's wall. It should state the max PSI allowed. Worm patch is like taking a gamble. It may or may not work. If it work, it can last you until your tire bald. If not, you may have to change the tire. Worm patch can seems to work for a while but may start to leak after a few ride. The worm's quality also plays a part. I will advice you to pump to a correct pressure first and monitor it for a few days to a week. If it still leak then try spraying soap water on the patched area and see got bubble or not.

My adice is if your tire is still good with deep tread , do an internal patch. It will save you a lot of hassle.

even if its not reli oem...your tyres are really super inflated.I surfed the size of your bike..your tyre sizes f/70/90/34psi and rear 80/90 /40psi.....both sizes 14inch.....you shld get a 2nd opinion on how much to pump your tyres when they are cold....there would be chances your tyres may just rupture prematuredly from overinflation?...

 

also even if your rims are modified...there is a limit...perhaps...15inch rims ?..

of coz i am no expert when it comes to scooter tyres...but as a fellow forumer says..he has not seen such high tyre pressures used in his whole life as i am too...

Sorry to hear for which usual case of every rider would go thru of puncture tyre caused by all kinds of means there are on the road.

Its unavoidable to be honest...been there done that...lol

 

Though TS tyres are quite new ...well dats depend on the size of the hole that been patch.

Like SBF superspeed123 suggest internal patch is a very good idea. Car tyres do that as well.

If not ( if TS dont feel safe) then change the tyre...

 

As for tyre pressure, every tyre have its specifications. Stick to the specify pressure for normal rides.

For long journey rides such as going up NSE will be different pressure.

Hot air rises....tyre expand a liitle bit more...(as theory )

I pump 36-38 for ALL my bikes. 47 too high lah. My continental car last time pressure also 38 max. Tink air leaked cos u pumped to high and since the air expanded, ur tyre also expanded and the sealed area opened up a little when that happened causing a slight leak.

Maybe 38 front and 40 rear since the engine is behind and since u like to pump so hard before. Hehehe

There should be a sticker on the swing arm stating the recommended tire pressures, keep a look out for it.

 

Most bike shops would suggest for you to change your tire should it be pierced through the wall. The last time that happened to my 4 month old rear tire, I requested him to stick a tube in instead. The tube is only about $30, a new tire was $200+. Keep this option in mind.
