Hi,

Some of us here like to do our own oil changes, especially when Carrefour has a bottle of semi synthetic 4T at $5.90 a bottle! Anyway, we all know that used engine oil is a real nasty thing to deal with, so how do you guys dispose of yours? Where can we dispose our used oil? Petrol stations? I tried bike shops but they always charge $2.

I normally go to the bike shop near my place at night and they normally leave their oil pan outside, so I just pour it in there and the next day when they open they probably think they just forget to empty it the night before after changing somebody's oil, :cheeky:

Cheers

Those drums are distributed by the waste oil collecting company, they actually pay/give freebies to the bike shops in exchange of the waste oil. Bike shops owner should have no issue if you contribute/top up the drum.

If u dun mind the hassle, you could 'filter' the used EO, then use the filtered oil to clean ur chain

actually i tried filtering the waste oil, but it still looked black... when it is black, means it is lost it's lubricating function already right?

No, color has nothing to do with lubricating function. Color is usually caused by carbon in the oil, a by-prodcut of combustion.

Two things cause oil to wear out. First, the long chain molecules are broken up into short chains and they don't lube as well. Second, heat causes the molecules to break down and/or clump up destroying the ability to lubricate.

Honestly, oil can have a very long life span, this is because of the oil filter. Back in the old days, car engines had no oil filter so the lifespan of the engine oil was about 800 miles.

Cheers!

If you are staying in the east area, you might want to pour your used engine oil into one of the two drums located outside Unique Motorsports. Its free of charge.

Please do not let the waste oil pollute the environment. Thank you.

I guess you are refering to the change of Viscosity of the oil over the time, right?

Steps to do a proper KNNBCCB with middle finger.

1. Bow down slightly, looking intensely at objective

2. Like a raging bull, hop and jog slowly towards objective

3. Take your left palm and slap it hard on the right mid-arm with a SLAP!

4. With charisma, raise right arm, whilst showing middle finger (with left palm trapped in bend right arm)

5. Shout! KNNBCCB

Yes, indeed. And the two things that kill engine oil are heat and the transmisson/gearbox.

You're absolutely correct...

since the EO is killed, then it still can be used to lub chain?

Woah! Bro U should stop doing that immediately!

The dumpsite is exactly what it is called, a place for dumping. The oil that u had dumped will be buried together with the other trash in that place under no more than a few metres of soil. The plastic bottle u used to store the EO will most probably be crushed during the compaction, allowing the EO inside to spill out, so it will not be any different if u had poured the the EO directly onto the ground there and let it seep in.

In the ground, the spilled EO is going to infiltrate the groundwater, i think in SGP, the oil most probably will end up in our seawaters eventually.

Just imagine next time any of us and our future generations go for a dip at Sentosa or East Coast, we will end up chin deep in EO mixed seawater! Yucks!

It is exactly because we dun want to deposit the used oil into shallow ground at the dumpsite that we dun dispose it like our normal rubbish. Used EO does not belong to the shallow ground of our dumpsites, hope u now see why.

A few websites and my bike manual stated that certain substance in your engine oil will actually damage the O-Ring. The best is to use kerosene to clean your chain.
