Why the LTA is not taking serious action on these reckless driver?

I read a news from the Strait Times about Cyclist dies after alleged hit-and-run accident (http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=9862 )on this Saturday and it remind me of my pass few months experiences when I started riding my scooter out from the street. I have not been riding a bike for more then 20 years and this time on the streets is much horrible then before, people who drive don't even bother and care about rider or cyclist in the street! They are like driving in the amusement park!

 

There was an incident where I was riding my scooter home with my wife in the morning from CTE, drivers who don't care are rushing to work or fetching their child to school. They drive at a very fast speed and cut thru 3 lanes from extreme left to the right exit without signal which is very close to my scooter, that may cause an accident! Another case is in the evening at Vivo a Mercedes driver, drive without switching on the headlight, switch lanes and almost hit into my scooter!

 

This Saturday a round 8 am before Bartley Underpass a lady driver with her BMW suddenly switch lane to the left and almost hit a rider in front of me and after driving a certain distance she realize that she suppose to exit Upper Serangoon Road. From the extreme left she shot thru 3 lanes to the right exit without caring about my scooter which is just at the right lane. Lucky I was riding at a slow speed and manage to stop on time, my wife and me stop and scolded the lady, which she only stay in the car and keep saying sorry! there is camera along these road.

 

What happen if accident happened due reckless driver that cause injury or life! Is sorry enough to compensate the life?

 

I saw many camera along Singapore street, is these a DUMMY? Why the LTA not taking any action on these reckless drivers?

 

Our Singapore government is very lenient to these reckless drivers especially the big car! Is there any further action taken on these driver or till they wait for thing happened to their love ones then a serious action will be enforce to these reckless driver!

 

Every week in the Chinese newspapers, almost alternate days there is reckless driver hit motorist or cyclist in the streets that cause life and injury! Why no serious action taken on these people? Where else there is an incident where a dog put to sleep by a owner, the state minister will stand up to look into this matter!

Did you guy saw any news about rider or cyclist that cause serious accidents injury or life to the public?

Warning letter and fine is not enough. 12 demerit points and a fine seems the like the most reasonable minimum punishment. Besides..they're too busy stopping us for illegal modifications, some of which don't even kill people. (e.g. an aftermarket exhaust)

This is TP's job

 

LTA's job is to saman and because our Govt is only interested in money. More funding for the art of saman rather than enforcement.

Think lta should focus more on this kinda reckless drivers ..personally I met with an accident an week ago.bcoz a driver swayed into my lane. I breaked to avoid ended up skidding and now with an broken wrist.driver dint even stop. He/she Pulled over saw me and drove away.

 

Now from law point of view, still im at the losing side. As the traffic marshel adviced me it's an self skidded case as there is no impact or collision involved.

 

Think most experienced bikers knew this and we cannot do anything about this..

Yesterday, is another case a lorry try to speed faster from a small lane(suppose to stop) to the major lane near under CTE bridge along Bartley Road. Instead of waiting for the coming traffic to clear, this guy out of control swift out to the second lane. There is 3 lanes there and beside me and behind me there is coming vehicles from the major road. Almost being hit by this lorry!

 

TP cannot monitor the traffic all the time but there is so many camera on the road. I believes the LTA could see what happened to these reckless driver unless they choose to ignore or all the camera are DUMMY can see can't record!

 

LTA has so many man powers they have the ability to monitor and instead of send people out to take photo and saman for illegal parking. They should also do the same to these reckless drivers that cause life and death to a innocent family!

 

***Next I want to to high light is why can't motorbike install LED light to have a better vision to other road users? I'm not saying 100% led light on the bike at least 30%! New car now are all led and led display monitor outside the building at orchard and other major road is worse that cause disturbed to road user on the streets!

 

I read news of drivers hit on pedestrian and motorists that cause serious injuries and death, these reckless drivers just give an excuse that at that moment the vision was not clear or the road is dark or the person is wearing a black shirt can't see and they have get the way out of the heavy penalty!

I believes if LTA take action on these reckless drivers and once the news is out, this driver will be more careful in their driving! Of course there is still drivers that is not frighten then LTA should suspend their license for 3 month or send warning to the company if it is a commercial vehicle. If it is very serous then there can be jail for 1 months.

LTA's part covers illegal parking, bus lane offences. TP is the one to go to for reckless driving, speeding. If u want to have your things sorted out quickly, go and bark at the right tree. Else, it gets stuck in the system and ding-dong here and there. They are not the same govt department.

My friend you think by posting this comment the LTA or TP or GOV didn't see it! They have special department to screen thru all forums and filter to the right department, it is only whether they want to look into it a not!

Whatever MOT or SPF are the same, both are belong to Government. They split into different departments is for their own convenience to gave excuses and push around the responsibility!

So far ok except wearing on the neck where the video is a bit shaky!

Mine is 80i model, perhaps we should have a special page to post all videos on reckless drivers that cut lane suddenly, make phone call during driving .... So that these will make them be more aware and considerate on others safety!

This is the risk u take when u wanna ride a bike. Everyday can be your last day with your wife. It's just a matter of time before u kena accident

 

I full agreed what you said! 20-30 years ago when riding a bike is rather safe, now drivers are driving a F1 Car/lorry/van speed without consider about others safety. Worst is hand phone, driver make phone call and do whatsapp/sms while driving or even they stop before the red light which I met one today!
