Happening man today. On the way back from PG.. rear tyre kena one big bolt which penetrated through and flew out again, letting all the air out instantly. Some more cruising at about 110 KMH along the 2nd Link towards the Gelang Patah rest area.

Metzeler Racetec sidewalls are so thin and cannot support the weight of the bike so cannot ride.. difficult to push also. Luckily a friend with me got the Metzeler puncture repair kit which also comes with 2 small gas tubes which you screw into an adapter to the tyre valve and it can inflate the tyre to 14psi after you plug the hole, which allowed me to ride to the petrol station.

Gonna buy the kit from Biketech21. Heard it retails for around $20. Small enough to fit in a waist pouch.

Today it dawned on me that it is really useless to carry a repair kit if you do not have a source of air supply to inflate the tyre after the repair.

Bicycle pump was said to be a good alternative, but I never try before. Normal bicycle pump, tried before....works for abit of air pressure to make it to bike shop.

A fren of mine riding a BMW, those ST11 lookalike models keep a electric pump on his bike. He told me there's 12v electrical supply on his bike like those ciggy lighters on cars. Wow.....

Exactly!!! I was rusing to KK today, driving a van....yes, was speeding a little but not more than 90kph, and had to lane change to lane 1 (1st time in my life) to overtake a white Integra RS, SFB 479 X because like I said, I was in a rush for my appointment. I was behind the Integra for a while, and it seems like we switched speeds....Integra travelling at the legal speed of a van, while I was trying to travel the legal speed limit of a car on a van :D

After overtaking and lane changing from a safe distance back to lane 2, the integra just have to lane change to lane 1 to speed up and overtake me.....why?!?!?!

------------------

Then at KK, it was my fault that I only had $6 plus in my cashcard (biker mah, keep so much value for what??? Wait left in IU that's it liao....) and how would I know that carpark would cost me $7.30 for 4hrs.....I was stuck at the exit barrier, while the LED flashes "Insufficient credit" something like that....4 cars started to Q-up behind me, and I put on reverse gear so the reverse light would show, to tell them I need to back up, park my van so I could top up my bloody cashcard. Instead, I get horned at.

So what am I supposed to do???

Put my van on hazard light, off my engine and go top up the cashcard while the rest of the cars wait behind me issit???

I wind down my window to motion for them to backup, but none would buldge. Out of desperation, I looked at the compartment where my dad kept his cashcard and luckily, he had like $11plus in it. Got me out of my situation......

If everyone is willing to buldge a little, give in a little, life would be more peaceful.

By the way, KK's parking really very expensive for cars....I remember parking the same period of time at Mount Alvernia, it only cost me $3 plus. I think because KK's medical are mostly subsidised, so they have to earn from parking and the food....2 veggie meat, 1 veggie and rice, cost me $3.80 :faint: And the veggie got snail somemore....looked like sotong when cooked, ha ha. Cannot find the shell liao.

The gas tube should not be able to recharge. Should be a one time use and throw....seen on magazines before.

sorry if u misinterpret me.

I understand it's a one-time off usage of the tubes, Can I just buy the tubes alone without purchasing the whole kit ?

Oh.....I guess only the retailer can answer that. Actually, was thinking, can the tube be recharged somehow??? U know, like connect it to a N2 bottle with very high pressure. But the thing is, how to do it safely without shooting the tube like a bullet or have the small tube explode in my face :D

Also I dunno what's the pressure to recharge.

BTW, who's selling this kid??? BikeTech21 or JR???

Aiyah, Tyrain is my fren lah.... And it seems logical to me that key is at the ignition when riding mah  Maybe he meant he left the key there after reaching his destination lor. :cheeky:

Just bought the last set from Biketech21. Cost is $28. Comes with 2 gas cylinders charged to 40 PSI but the volume is small. It took 2 bottles to bring my rear tyre up to half inflation, but it is rideable.

The cylinders are of the same kind you find in inflatable life vests. When you screw them onto the adapter to charge your tyre via the tyre valve, the cylinder is punctured to discharge the pressurised gas. Thereafter the cylinder is useless.

Really, it was not going to be funny to push a CBR1000 with a totally flat tyre for 3 km to the nearest petrol station, worst still in full track leathers!! :faint:

Oh, those types of design....use and throw.... :sian:

Understood the puncture feeling, as RedRocket get a metal plate stuck in his rear when going over potholes at JB side right before the moneychanger. We were supposed to go track, but ended up, only around 11pm then we got his bike ready. Kana carrot for a used Dunlop 208 ZR, went to track, it started to drizzle, and went back home.

So how about portable mountain bike tyre pump??? Ha ha, that's if you are willing to use arm power.... :cheeky:

Raptor, so the gas cylinders cannot be bought separately without the kit ?

 Wouldn't it be better to have maybe a few more spare cylinders in our repair kit. So u have more air in the tyre after the patch.

Well, there is a high chance that you need not use the inflating canister when patching your tyre because not every debris would cause massive tyre leak. So likely you could make it to a gas station with a pressure pump to do your repair there.

Probably you need the canisters only during an emergency

BTW, you guys know that race tyre once patch, it should not be used on track anymore right??? A mechanic advised me that, as due to the fact that the tyre compound is too soft. A blowout could.....could be possible if using a "patched" race tyre because the tyre would tear from the "patch" spot.

okie, thanks for the input.

Yup, I understand that race tyres once patch cannot go track anymore.. which explains why I'm saving for a pair of Racetecs now.. my SC are kaput now... thanks to some stone on the expressway that left me with a unforgettable Xmas Eve puncture.

Thanks again for the knowledge sharing with everyone.

You're welcome...... :thumb:

Previously, I was on RennSports2 and thought I had a nail on my front....so went to bikeshop and luckily it's not. The mechanic out of goodwill shared this info with me, which I was shocked to hear cuz if it's really a nail, likely I would patched it and go track the very next day!!!

That's why I also opt to don a set of HP Sports tyres after the RS2 worn out instead of race tyres as I'm not really any faster on race rubbers, and HP Sports are more hardy in the real world, where FOD are all over the road.

:cheer:

Happy new yr to everyone who post in this thread often.
