Guys,

Just wish to enquire

Wats the ave tp speed of Japan RXZs(1989) and its fuel consumption?

Thanks

I hav a 1985 Jap RXZ, 5 speed. While it was still stock, average top speed of it is 140km/h and I get 345km max before goin on reserve. So average fc = 34.5km/litre.

Haiz... Those were the virgin days..............

Thanks bro, Intend to get one soon.

Wat the diff btwn japan and malaysian RXZ?

I heard the japan one have btr engine

Tat's wat I heard too. Well wat do u expect from the Japs? They're such a perfectionist! But those were way back. Now countries wif uprising technologies like India, Malaysia and Korea are, can I safely say tis, on par wif the Japs. (Why am I into politics matter now?)

Anyway get tis, I took it from the Wikipedia webpage abt RX-Z...

"Debuted in 1987, the Yamaha RX-Z was originally equipped with a 5-speed transmission with solid front disc brake. The model shared the same platform and chassis as its predecessor, the water-cooled Yamaha RD125. Shortly after the launch, the RX-Z became popular among young motorcyclists especially in Malaysia. A few years later, the engine was upgraded with the installation of a 6-speed transmission, together with newer instrument panel and handlebar switches, as well as a cross-drilled front disc brake rotor.

Since then, the design of the RX-Z remained unchanged until 2004 when the model was facelifted, with the rear lights borrowed from the Yamaha Y125Z. The facelifted RX-Z was equipped with a catalytic converter, sacrificing 1 PS of maximum power (original maximum power: 21 PS). However, the maximum torque remained unchanged but the low-end torque was improved compared with the early models. Some owners of the earlier RX-Z motorcycles may have problems during take-off because the engine tends to stall when an inexperienced rider tries to take off in the first gear. However, the problem was resolved in the facelifted model.

In Malaysia, the RX-Z is one of the motorcycle models often associated with Mat Rempit street racers. As a result, many Malay movies including Remp-It use the RX-Z in their movies."

Hmmm... Funny why they didn't mentioned tat it's popular in Thailand when most of it's original parts comes from there....

Hi :)

That is because RXZ is not very popular here.... last been sold in 1996, a very long time ago. Ever since no RXZ have been made in Thailand and also spare parts are very difficult to find.

These days RXZ is often (ab)used to haul heavy goods such as gas cylinders or car tyres, due to RXZ's good low-end torque. Most RXZ are in very poor condition, kept barely running. RXZ are one of the cheapest used bikes you can buy - with papers and good condition below 5,000 Baht (around 150 us$), in poor condition and/or without papers much cheaper - i myself bought one, driveable, no papers but even including a bunch of rather expensive racing parts, for just 2,000 Baht (less than 60 us$).

There is few RXZ types available in Thailand. - the "Japan type" one with the square tail light and integrated indicators, in five- and six-speed, also with "Lemang" or "3BS" pipe, the speed meter going to 180. Another one probably unknown in Malaysia, identical to the first type except for the tail light and tail cover which has a different shape and "external" indicators (same as in the front), this comes again in five- and six-speed, with or without the YCLS unit and it has a speed meter reaching 200.

The newer versions have never been sold in Thailand.

My own RXZ "Bulldozer" is originally the second type, five-speed, YCLS. But by now modified to "Japan type" look including "Lemang" pipe, but keeping it's original speed meter. The gearbox internals have been replaced so it is a six-speed. Further modifications (non-RXZ parts) include a Kawasaki GTO Mach-6 head light, front wind screen (original for Yamaha Nouvo), "bull bar" designed for police-RXZ (such used to exist!) with chromed additional headlights, serving as additional indicators and "angel eyes", bored block to 150cc with VRR/TZR piston, home-made rear LED tail light and indicators, front LED indicators (from e-bay), rear disc brake, rear "V4"suspension (4 shock absorbers), Givi "Micro 2" box including home-made LED brake light, 18" (stock size) D.I.D. aluminium spoke rims and digital speed meter "CatEye".

I guess i am probably the only RXZ-enthusiast in Bangkok, i have never seen another RXZ that was modified to such extend - altough i observed ONE other with rear disc brake and ONE with a four-stroke (Honda Sonic) exhaust on it - weird sound :) The RXZ that i bought so cheaply had been modified too, mainly by removing stock parts, but there was also a "Showa" racing fork, 17" wheels, and a highly modified engine that included the bored-up block. However that one had not been used for several years.

By now it is next to impossible to find genuine Yamaha spare parts, and most of the after-market parts are of poor quality. I have most of my "special modification" parts from A-AN 07, without him my RXZ would still be pretty much stock.

Best regards......

Sad cause I always hear from some of the mechanics tat most of the RXZ original parts comes from Thailand since Japan stops producing it anymore. Or it is most aftermarket parts???:giddy: I don't know. I even heard from my fren who rode his Z up to Bangkok tat it's a haven for RXZ where parts are cheap and u can almost get anythin for ur Z there. Hmmmm....

Anyway, u bored ur block up to the max is it? Bad idea cause should anythin happened to ur piston, u can throw ur block away. I just bought a 2nd hand y1 block for my wifey's bike cause it's already bored up to the max, using RXK piston. All thanx to tis particular S'pore bike shop which I won't mentioned it's name. Originally got a 1.25 piston, then I "rempit" it till it got seized. So send the bike there for rebore and after payin 400++ for everythin "original", I was wondering why the HELL is the bike vibratin so violently. Took the bike to JB, got it checked out and all the "secrets" come out. So spend another few hundreds for overhaul and tis time round, original Japan parts. All in all, everythin seems fine till my wife forgot to top up her 2T.... Another rebore...

Then recently got the bike for full service at JB, tat's where they found out tat the piston ring came out of it's position and eventually "ate" away the edges of my block where the outlet is. There's no way they can rebore it anymore, so in the end the block went into the bin. And fork out a few hundreds for a cheap 2nd hand block, original 1.75 piston and piston ring. Now still running in tat damn bugger.

But still, I miss the response of the bike when it's bein bored till the max... Shoik!!!!

Hi :)

In mine they use VRR/TZR piston, no oversize yet (but there is noise from the piston ring, i guess i'll replace the piston maybe when hit 80k Kilometers and then bore to first (TZR) oversize. I did not bore that one myself btw, i bought a second RXZ because i needed the frame, and it came with a highly modified engine (racing crank shaft, racing clutch, custom primary and secondary transmission gears, modified case to hold larger and reinforced bearings and that block/piston).

The "walls" are still rather thick, i guess if i would find a piston with the same compression height and correct bore diameter this block can be bored to some 180-190 cc. But maybe the piston would have to be custom-made, i know a factory in Germany that does custom pistons for two-stroke bikes but it is very expensive, some 500 Euros for one (but including boring the block and matching the ports).

I have of course still got my stock block and piston (first oversize), so if something goes wrong it's a quick fix - but i, too, love the immense power this one generates (it's ported, too, the mechanic estimates it to make around 30-32 horsepower, with larger carb and specific pipe it could go up to 55 horsepower, but i run stock RXZ carb, stock air box and stock "Lemang" pipe (minus fiber, still don't know where i should get that from). It's a Y2 block, by the way, about the stock one i have no idea because it's not stamped at all other than "133 cm3".

When you use RXK piston, how many cc do you get with that one? I have just googled this bike and, judging by the pictures, it is the same that is called "Yamaha Concord" in Thailand, but VERY rare. But it has 125 or 135cc, too? The block looks just like the RXZ one :)

Please ask your friend where in Bangkok he found RXZ parts - i am genuinely interested. from my own experience during two years, you can find often-needed things cheaply but other things are either HORRIBLY expensive or not available at all - or after-market with very poor quality (a 3BS pipe that starts rusting within the first week or after the first rain ride, a tail cover that somehow is 3 cm's too wide, tail lights that don't fit the stock brackets without modification, tank caps that leak all over the place GRRRRR just been there! etc etc etc). Tank? Unavailable. Seat? Unavailable. Genuine cover set? Unavailable. Meter set? Unavailable.

And the best - if you dare going to a Yamaha dealer asking for RXZ parts, your answer will be "why do you drive such old junk? Throw away, then come back and buy a Nouvo!" been there, tried that.

So yeah, please tell me where your ftriend found RXZ parts, i'll chck it out on the weekend.

Kind regards, and good night.....
