When I was taking my 2B lessons, I bought a learner starter package from Helmetboys, where it includes a SPY SX-1 helmet. The package costs $55, so I estimate the helmet price at about $40-50. After I passed and rode my new bike for about six months, I replaced my SPY helmet with a AGV blade which costs around $180 from Regina.

Go check out the motorcycle accessories shops along Jalan Besar/Kelantan Lane with a experienced rider friend. Hope this helps.

Buy a decent full face helmet for actual road use. A budget of $200 will be able to get you one. Brands like HJC is value for money, though you will fork out more for a flip up.

And please, don't be tempted to get those pointless half face or pudding helmet that comes with a pointless goggles.

I looked at some arai and shoei but i think those might be a bit too expensive. Any recommendation for full face at around $200?

Someone recommends me to get flip up since i wear spec, tried some flip up helmet just now at Regina, dont know if it is the quality or not but it feels weird being boxed in, dont think a full face helmet is for everyone. Did try the AVG blade and it was quite nice, but is the helmet safe? cause feels quite exposed wearing it.

Some HJC full-face costs $150.

It depends how you define the word 'safe'. The AVG blade is PSB certified, although none of the safety standards can exactly replicate the risks that a motorcyclist may face in an accident. What they can do is to minimise the risks by conducting impact tests.

HJC is good value for money. For about $200, there is quite a selection of full face. Go Motoworld at Kaki Bukit to take a look.

Maybe i am digressing here? Sry TS to "hijack" yr thread bah..how abt using full face helmet on kups? As in those shoei ds types;) opinions?

The only funny thing I've seen are bike riders esp scooters using those pointless puddings with goggles. Well, those belong to a fashion magazine not on the road.

You will get used to it very soon.

After using full face for so many years, I once tried a half face. The wind noise is terrible and the protection is a joke.

Why I am a preacher for full face helmets?

Before any Captain Obvious comes in with his barrage of 'you are only as safe as your riding', let me just share this picture.

Get a N43 modular helmet can transform from half face to full face for better protection.

HJC are good helmets cos they are generally Snell certified.

Average helmets are generally made from polycarbonate materials whereas higher ends ones are fiberglass or carbon fibre. or others.

For $100 you can get a HJC CL-STII (or something, can't remember the exact model) at Motoworld. A pretty average helmet good for a first helmet.

For higher end helmet you can try HJC RPHA, which is a very light helmet.

I wear specs and I don't use flip-up helmet, so modular or not it doesn't really matters. In fact, I actually prefer non flip-up helmet.

Btw, when I choose helmet I only choose Snell or ECE. Anything without these 2 I will skip.

You weigh the cost of the helmet against the cost of your head, still think arai or shoei is expensive?

Get HJC CLST from motorworld for 150 around. It is still worth and good helmet. Note that PSB Approve@!

If you got buddy i hope still 2 for 200$ available.

I got mine one year ago though!

I don't prefer the flip up. If have function to flip up, just buy normal half face lah, no point in using!

HJC RPHA => quite expensive,, but worth seems.!

Went to motoworld, wanted to get the HJC Symax 3 ($250) but end up getting the HJC RPHA Max ($350). Modular is much easier to wear if you are wearing spec. Tried some full face but werent able to put the helmet on while wearing spec.

Yeah, my wife also have problem with spec on clst2.

Now motorworld has new HJC CR2, a bit rounder than clst 2. Same price and buddy promotion still on !

I gave up on Arai's stupid shield change mechanism. The helmet itself is great but I expected more from a $800 helmet.

I really like the HJC RPHA-10, which I'm using now. Half the price of an Arai, both DOT and SNELL approved, lighter weight and easy to use shield change mechanism. It even comes with Pinlock anti-fog insert and spare tinted shield. Ventilation is also very good. Strongly recommended.
