Personally i wun go for pylox. Shld have gone for RJ's. I dun reccomend another layer of anything unless u remove the old paint. Even clearcoat over it would cause everything to melt off. Its like using paint remover.

hi there...i DIY painted my bike last month. i used pylox spraypaint and pylox clear coat. it seems like now the clear coat is starting to melt. can anyone advise me on what should i do? thanks.

i know the only sollution is to redo everything but what i need to know is what laquer or clear coat is best for our bikes. thanks again.

1. sand the surface down slightly with 2000 grit sandpaper and water until it becomes dull and smooth.

2. spray with RJ London lacquer.

To be honest, I'm not sure. It's been about 4 months since I sprayed my bike and the lacquer hasn't deteriorated at all. It's still as smooth and glossy as it was 4 months ago. However, I wax my bike regularly, and it's parked in a covered carpark so that might explain why the lacquer's still in good condition. Others have had problems with the lacquer deteriorating with time. Thus, I can't give you a good, conclusive answer.

I suppose you can't really expect that much from a $4 can of paint :)

You can buy RJ paints from the hardwareshop at Mayo Street (or Dunlop street, cant remember). $4 a can. Or just visit several hardware shops...RJ paints are as easily available as Nippon Pylox.

it acts a a base coat for the colour coat. With it, paint will adhere better to the surface, thus last longer. Has nothing to do with scratch removal!

Yes, RJ sells spray primer. It's labelled "Primer Grey".

Sorry, I really can't remember if the shop's on Dunlop or Mayo Street. It's at the corner, the first shop you'll see as you turn in from Jln Besar. Dunlop and Mayo Streets run parallel to each so you can check both streets out.

Just use 400-600 grit sandpaper. As the finish will be matt, you won't have to worry about the surface being completely smooth. Just roughen it up, and clean it thoroughly.

Use matt black paint, as well as RJ's dull lacquer. Make sure it's "dull", not regular (which is glossy). Also, don't forget to use primer!

Good luck!

Primer = undercoat. You spray it onto the surface you're about to paint. It helps the paint adhere to the surface better.

So the procedure is as follows:

1. Sand surface

2. Clean it thoroughly

3. Spray primer. Let dry.

4. Spray colour coat. Let dry.

5. Spray dull laquer. Let dry.

1. 3 layers should be enough.

2. I don't know how big your bike is so I can't say. 2 should be plenty. Maybe 3?

3. Each can's $4.

hey!

To be honest, i don't have that much experience with plastic fairings. Most of my bike parts are made of metal so I never had to fill anything up. I personally wouldn't bother using putty unless the plastic was severely damaged...or if it had a hole, or holes in it.

For scratches, i'd try to sand them out. start sanding with 600 grit sandpaper all the way up to 2000 grit, with lots of water. then paint. that technique usually works quite well.

Epoxy putty is fine. Avoid woodfiller for obvious reasons :)

that's tricky. If you use thinner, the paint will probably come off, but the plastic may fog up.

I suppose try applying some thinner to a corner of your windscreen's that's out of sight. Make sure you rub it in to simulate you cleaning paint off the surface. if it fogs up, then suck thumb....paint can't be removed i'm afraid. If the plastic doesn't fog up, then go ahead, remove the paint wsith thinner.

Other solvents that may work:

1. Lighter fluid
