lol. after seeing so many cbr pic. found out tt most of the pple put box for cbr. and even put box the bike doesn't look ugly. wonder hw come? haha. is it due to mini size as compare it to other sport bike or the half fairing. other sport bike put super ugly

Oh...

So how many types of oil can I change?

Am rather confused and would like to learn more before getting a CBR! Thanks!

OK, from the way I see it (or actually from what I read in this forum thread so far), maintenance is the same for most bikes, that is, need to change engine oil (EO) on regular basis (every 2500-5000 km), price depends mostly on the type of oil but from reading up, $20 is quite reasonable. Next is the spark plug, change every 5000-10000 km, price around $10 and of course need to lube the chain regularly so need to have some stuff (lube/oil/WD40 etc etc) ready for that also... all you 'experts' out there, pls correct me if I read up wrongly...

Most people use CBR150 as commuter bike, so must be able to carry some barang barang. Besides, CBR so good looking, even box cant spoil the good looks hahaha :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

for engine oil, its supposedly to act as a medium between the moving parts in ur engine. cos of these moving parts, theres friction and then heat generated.

so with a layer of oil, it will carry away these heat and decreasing all the wear and tear lah.. also it will prevent corrosion also, what we call rust lah..

and to chose what engine oil to use:

1st u will look at synthetic or non-synthetic.

non-synthetic is the traditional petroleum-based type and becos of the wax content in it, when weather is too cold, it solidify.. but when i say cold here, its some sort like winter kind of cold and not our morning type of cold..

so actually we dun have to factor this into consideration..

And, synthetic type, in layman term its "man-made"

its meant to last at least twice as long as non-synthetic ones.. so if u chose this kind, its supposedly can last longer so dun have to chg as often lah

then, u have to look at the vicosity.

i quote u an example from Maxima engine oil lah.. but of cos theres other types..

Maxima Ultra (5W50) VS Maxima Extra (15W50)

Ultra is a thinner engine oil compared to Extra.

I asked the mechanic before.. he told me becos mine is a new bike, so I can still use Ultra. the thinner of the both..

but when my bike is like maybe 1 or 2 yrs old.. its better to use a thicker one like extra..

**And!! All the above is I read up from the internet and ask from mechanics one lah.. just my own understanding of engine oil

so its for ur reference oni huh...

should u have other opinions, Im totally fine with it =)

Called BP today. No stock currently. Machine price $4500 without insurance & IU. Is it a good price?

does that mean machine price for cbr now is $4500??? include coe, rd tax, insurance will be around $6k?

There was a figure mentioned of $7.2k for a new one including insurance the other day - insurance alone already $1.7k though, so OTR excluding insurance around $5.5k

Better off going for second/third hand

tink the mileage meter clock one round finish already bah~

anyway, i remember reading abt oils with multi-grade viscousity.

e.g. 15W50

the 1st number stands for the vicousity at low temp e.g. when it is nearing winter in countries w/ 4 seasons. thinner when colder is to make the engine start more easily.

technically, since we dont experience such low temp in SG, we dont need multi-grade viscousity oils.

the important number for us is the 2nd number. it is the vicousity when the oil is warm when the engine is running.

for our CBR150, viscousity of 50 will be good for daily commuting purposes. :)

pls correct me if i am wrong yah?

Depends a little on what happens with Zed. Since he's now busy repairing his PC, he wont be posting any news I guess but if he's still planning to go to JB on Sat, I guess that trip is on. If not we can have the DIY session at uncle Lim's place...either way works for me...

i know. old technology is not in production anymore and buying them brand new is not easy. it's actually a conspiracy to force you to upgrade. Zheng Yuan and I had to find out the hard way. luckily for my 'cheepo' skills, we managed to save his PC for $39. have you tried sourcing for used RAMs on the local auctions or classified?

yes, looks like i'll have to get a new M/B cos that's whats broken, or so i deduce. i currently have 4 piece 256MB 400MHz RAM, Zheng Yuan's brother got 1 piece 512MB 400MHz RAM. what's your setup, and how many available slots left? maybe i will buy new (cheaper) RAMS and pass on the rest.

down with commercialization!

So Zed, your PC DIY-ed back to health is it?
