Hi,

I am getting my 2B license and looking to get a 2A license in a year. I am hoping to get some advice for a 2B bike that can help me practise for 2A next year and has a good re-sale value and easy to maintain.

Also, it would be really troblesome to wear a whole set of riding gears, everytime i ride. Could I get some advice on which are essential and good to have?

im thinking of getting a flip up helmet but i am not sure if i'll need gloves, jackets or even boots

Any advice would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Hello!

Welcome to the world of riding! There are quite a few bikes out there that have quite a good re-sale value in the market nowadays! Just to name a few... FZ16, R15, CBR150R etc etc. Well if you're talking about helping you practice for 2A I think the FZ16 would be the best because of it's riding posture n stuff are similar to the SuperFour or YBR250 at various driving centers~

Gear wise... once I got my bike, I went to scout for a fullface helmet and I found a great deal online. Raincoat is a must to get in Singapore!!! Of course a pair of riding gloves for you to wear daily would be great as well. Jackets or boots really depends on your needs and budget of course!

This is my 2 cents!

Bro safety first. It is better to be well protected. Be safe rather than sorry in the event of a "touch wood" incident.

I do wear one when I'm going out at night or going to JB. Just to share something with you! Yesterday I witnessed a self-skid accident. Rider dislocated his shoulder, but luckily he did wear a jacket (the shoulder part tore), so just imagine what would happen if he didn't wear the jacket! Safety First!

Motoworld - Lavender or Kaki Bukit.

Regina/LAB @ Jalan Besar.

Or the many accessories shops along Jalan Besar or Serangoon Road.

Hm. For local riding, I take it as a pair of jeans are enough of course if you want to wea riding pants/jeans/leathers by all means. Boots, is also up to your own preference of course. For me I wear a pair of Gore Tex Timberland boots to and fro work, I wear my riding boots when I have the chance to ride out for kopi runs at night or crossing the border. Regina/Dainese do carry riding shoes that resembles converse shoes, so why not take a look first :D

just get any 2B bike that is manual if u wan to practice for 2A, best is to get street bike which has similar posture to super 4. Singapore is hot, just get a mesh jacket. U can find at motorworld, regina, chong aik. or u can find cheap deals at facebook, look for singapore motorcycle garge there are a few of them. and some ppl sells new jackets on facebook too.

Hi,

Also, it would be really troblesome to wear a whole set of riding gears, everytime i ride.

Something to share.

I bought a full face helmet, jacket with protective paddings and better padded gloves right after my test when I passed my 2B last year.

I upgraded my half face to full face helmet immediately. First for safety reason as I witnessed my friend fell off his bike during e-brake and injured his chin; nothing serious but it bled badly. And I told myself I would upgrade my helmet after I passed. Second reason being something to reward myself for passing the test despite challenges during the test.

At the same time, I bought a jacket with protective pads. I fell off during e-brake too; few sessions after my friend did. I was lucky except for bruises on my left shoulder and torso but bad bleeding on my left elbow, which took weeks to recover, despite my elbow guard was on!

My last incident was I fell off during the figure of 8 and I broke my fall with my palm. No injury since I had my gloves on but I suffered throbbing pain over the next few days on my palms.

Luckily, these incidents happened during my circuit training and it was a blessing and thanks to the protective gears that my injuries were nothing more than bruises and some bleeding; no broken bones or dislocations of joints. I could imagine the worst had I fell without these protective gears when I'm out on the roads at higher speeds after I have passed.

Since then, I always have my FF helmet, jackets, gloves, jeans and riding shoes on whenever I rides, never mind about the hot weather and the occasion stares from other road users. It is a commitment to my personal safety and to my family.

And I'm looking forward to register for my 2A next month!

wah u keep fall down during lesson becareful during 2A.

I agree FF is the most important. usually ppl fall they hit the chin area. if skid usually the leg will get hurt too so riding shoe is good as well. but those protective pants is just too troublesome and hot to wear for everyday use. I bought 1 komine riding jeans with protective pad on the knee, seem quite good.

Thanks for the reminder.

I guess falling is part and parcel of learning to ride and with each fall, it strengthen my will to ride defensively.

Sorry to hijack. I am beginning 2B and was wondering what gear is necessary, bearing in mind that I may not buy a bike and ride after obtaining the license. Am thinking of at least a full-face helmet and gloves. Probably wear a long-sleeve shirt on top of t-shirt, jeans and sneakers? I had thought of a mesh jacket but all the jackets on Revzilla are already $100+!

What kind of full-face helmet and gloves are good value for money? Female... and a bit blur about all these motorcycle things.

Best for you to go down to a physical shop, Regina/LAB/Motoworld to try out.

The most expensive stuff may not be comfortable for you, something uncomfortable will instead be a danger instead of a safety equipment.

You will be minding the discomfort so much to the point whereby your focus get shifted elsewhere.

SSDC instructors recommend open-face helmets for lessons, as when you're checking blind spots and checking back it would seem more obvious to the testers in the future

Go for open face helmet with PSB approval & a decent set of non-leather gloves (washable) for your bike lessons. It's more comfortable as full face is hot & stuffy at slow speed. Elbow & knee guards are mandatory in the driving centre, if I'm not wrong. Price range, I guess, should be around $50-100 for each item depending your choice of brand.

Ask a biker friend to bring you to some shops and do some window shopping before deciding what you want.

Have fun learning!

TS, work out your budget for the gears. A decent helmet (open / full face) and washable gloves to me it's something to start off with. Jacket, riding shoes/boots and lastly pants in this sequence.

Have fun riding!

BBDC has raincoats, though you'd smell alittle later.

SSDC is multistorey style, rain don't affect much.

CDC i not sure.

CDC better get your own raincoat. They provide but sometimes it's not enough.

I would suggest an open face helmet for lessons. Full face will be too hot and uncomfortable in that kind of environment.

Proper textile riding gloves. Textile top with leather palms are good. Full leather will be too stiff and cumbersome for learning. Forget cotton gloves. I've seen lots of bloodied cotton gloves at the emergency brake area.

Elbow and knee guards. Compulsory at SSDC, and they sell them cheaper than elsewhere. Elbow guards are not mandatory at BBDC if I'm not wrong. But wear them anyway.

Long sleeves. Or arm warmers. Otherwise u are going to end up with fair hands, tan forearms, fair elbows, tan upper arms, fair shoulders (if ur lessons are in the day). If u are getting a jacket, go for mesh with armour.

Jeans.

Flat soled boots. Or hiking boots. Cover ur ankles.

Raincoat good to have. Like the others say, schools' raincoats smell.

That should cover ur basics for lessons. We'll discuss what to upgrade for real world riding after u get ur licence. :)

Honda CG145, Honda CB150R ExMotion. And a few others in between...
