Its better to get a bike cover to cover ur bike when u r not ard... especially at ur HDB carpark.

Once i did not cover, someone kick my gear to 1. Then i cant start my bike until someone pointed out that my gear is not in neutral sia... so paisei sia...

I think he's referring to Race Shield perhaps.

I've been considering getting them too, but at $400+ im thinking twice whether it justifies the price... Hmmm:giddy:

Hi jojojo,

RACEshield is not your regular sticker (vinyl), but an ultra strong thermoplastic aliphatic urethane film. At only 150micron in thickness, it functions exactly like a conventional acrylic protector, but with added benefits.

THEFT is actually the one of the main culprit for our past bikers for switching, especially since Jan 2008

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below are similar queries explained (quoted from a query from the Fazer forum)

fir_chan (in regards of the factual truth on $$ not spent on unneccessary thefts), I second to your opinion definitely. For the past 6 mths, we have many "converts" changing to RACEshield for their lamps:-

a) The number 1 reason is theft. (difficult to see, hard to peel, cannot re-use)

b) Followed by ease of cleaning

c) Next is the improved visibility in time to come (urethane does not blur with age like acrylics)

d) Finally, it is aesthetically more pleasing w/o velcros (less eye candy to thefts too)

Multiple replacement from thefts / costly replacement from damaged headlamp unit, VS equivalent priced solution with value-added benefits. It solved the issues faced by bike lovers/enthusiast past & present clients'. They were all looking for protection with an ease of mind.

I personally myself spent 3x '00 R1 replacements = approx $40~$55x3 = $100++?!@##. That was one of the reason why I made this product available locally, apart from keeping my bike look spanking new from up-north trips.

The following bikes (of various year makes) are of the "top 5 billboards" from our "converted" users:-

1) R1s

2) R6s

3) CBRs

4) FZs

6) GSX-Rs

I learnt my lesson the hard way like etky85 ... :giddy:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other deeper queries are quoted as follows:

MuNkyFooT, you are not wrong, but 1/2 right your the above opinion. Our FAQs section (http://singaporebikes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=139399) attends to the above. Below is a very generalized explaination.

1) Properties of headlamp units

Modern lamp surfaces are now made of polycarbonate instead of glass. Polycarbonates in nature are very flexible (like helmet visors & windshields), which unlike glass which are extremely brittle, or acrylics (headlight protectors) which are also brittle. In fact normal acrylic cracks easily from stones, get blurred easily from scratches, reduces light intensity with time.

Try bending/stepping your visor & the usual headlight protector. See which cracks first. This is a very common illustration from motoworld on their polycarbonate MRA windshield. Same principle of properties illustration. Small stones as you mentioned is VERY difficult is crack your lamps.

That is the main reason why automobile have now all switched to polycarbonates. BUT the apparent issue of polycarbonates is that they are very vulnerable to "pittings" on its surface.

2) Film vs acrylic

On the move, anything that can be thrown by mother nature or stones/debri from the road by sticky tires in front, is of never substantial size (nothing more than 1/2" x 1/2" which is already very BIG). Why?

a) The weight of stones vs friction b/w tires & stones that picks them up when on the move.

b) A large stone being kicked up is almost next to impossible.

c) The velocity of the flying stone great diminishes with weight. So does the height of the projected stone in its trajectory.

Unless your bike is place directly behind a vehicle doing burnout in gravel, no fingers crossed required.. :thumb:

3) Event of crash

In the even of bad crashes (touchwood), acrylic protectors or RACEshield fitted, headlamps will break/crack depending on nature of crash. But when scrutineered deeper:-

a) normal protectors are velcro'ed on. Many cases the protector will take the impact & break, followed by it WILL definitely fall off.

b) You will not be able to fit back depending on the damage of your lamps. You can't even ride back at night with lights on when it rains.

For RACEshield, yes even if the lamps crack or break, RACEshield HOLDs it together to ensure you can ride back from long trips. Added benefit in case of the worst occurs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hence RACEshield provides equivalent protection with added-values:

1) no obvious velcros to deter theft. In fact, how to steal when you cannot re-use

2) ease of cleaning

3) no need to replace like normal protectors when they crack

4) holds broken/cracked pieces to ride back safely

5) reduces "pittings" which can see easily on normal protectors.

6) reduces heat build up as opposed to normal protectors (explained in FAQ)
