Hi guys,

There's a layer of stubborn dust/dirt that's always on my rims and it seems impossible to rub it off with soap and water.

Any cleaning agents that I can purchase ?

Will wd40 remove the paint ?

Should not be. But as always with these things, try at a not so obvious place first.

Ride fast..ride safe..don't crash...

If dirt/dust is hard to remove and is a crusty layer. Dump a whole load of wheel cleaning solution(autobac/petrol stations sort), or muc off, or GT85/WD40, then blast it off with a pressure cleaner if you can. Don't go scrubbing straight away to get rid of the dirt. Once most of the caked on stuff is gone, slowly begin using some paintwork safe solvent on a clean rag to remove remaining dust.

Abrasive grit and stuff can act as sandpaper as you scrub. Can leave scratches if you're not careful.

After you're done, apply some sort of wax or another. I use meguair's spray wax, but any will do, on the RIMS only. Don't get any on the tyre. It'll help to make subsequent washings easier as the dirt will stick to the wax layer more than the wheel. Alternatively, any sort of Teflon spray should make dirt hard to adhere to too.

just wet it with your eo...let it and time dislodge the crude..

this crude mostlly come from greasy chain wax...throw offs from the chains..after it dried out..it stays there...

normal soap will not be able to remove it...as they are really stubborn...expensive heavy duty cleaner needed to do job.

those who have chain oilers on their bikes will not have this problem

I used Mr. Brasso on my exhaust stubborn stains, seems to work but must rub for a while before seeing effect.

Using normal bike cleaners like don't work on rims eh? Damn pissed when you try to wipe etc, then your whole sponge / cloth gets super dirty too. Do y'all just throw the cloth aft washing the rims with it? The blackness like stubborn won't even wash off when you wash your cloth too :(

All the expensive chem cleaner... Go buy a pack of sodium bicarbonate baking soda from NTUC, cleans everything, cheap and environmentally friendly. Sprinkle abit on the rim, mist a bit water, clean off with brush, cloth and some muscle.

WD40 works fine, but be careful not to get it on the tyres. I use S100 Total Cycle Cleaner (got it from Looi's Motor). Spray, wipe, rinse. Done.

Honda CG145, Honda CB150R ExMotion. And a few others in between...
