Kawasaki Japan discontinued W400 in September 2008, you might want to consider the new W800 :thirsty:

New tyre fitted, giving the wheel and the tyre a good wash in...... the bathtub

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN5637.jpg

[3507] quite fresh considering my rear tyre is the odd size 170/60-17

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN5646.jpg

This is the tedious part, cleaning the threadlocker residue, scraping with dental pick, soaking in acetone. And finally, clean threads on the wheel and bolts.

This is the old threadlocker on the wheel.

Soaking in acetone to soften the old threadlocker

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN5639.jpg

Clean bolts

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN5653.jpg

Dry assembled in the living room, will coat the bolts with fresh threadlocker and torque them properly tomorrow

Where to buy the thread locker, going to DIY change my front brake disc.

My bike uses 12mm hex key so it is quite easy to get from local hardware shop.

Did you try local hardware shop? otherwise get in from the ebay or other online sources :thirsty:

I went local hardware shop and look see look see, but only the normal size allen key set is available. I am not exactly sure what size but definitely looks bigger than 12mm hex to remove the front wheel spindle shaft.

The tool is available from ebay but very expensive, approx UK30 pounds inclusive of shipping. Might as well pay shop to change the brake disc for me.

There is an old trick.

Get a bolt with hex head that fits your axle's inner hex, double nut it so that you can use a normal wrench/spanner to turn it :thirsty:

Thanks for the idea, I google and find that I can use a hex end of a socket then fit a extension bar to loosen the front wheel axle.

I never is a firm believer of fancy tool that comes in multiple sizes. Total useless in tough suituation when you need it and cost a bomb just for it's fanciful design.

Trust me. I've been there and never will buy such things.

I will go for a breaking bar of at least a foot in length which has a 1/2 inch square for any attachment. A good one like Elora ( shop just off Jalan Besar sells Elora) that might cost as a initial investment but trust me it serve for a life time and you will never, I say never run out of any attachment of adaptors you can fit onto it. You can even increase or decrease the size of attachment on it.

For such hard to remove nut, short of a impact wrench of at least 1/2 inch drive which cost much much more than a breaking bar, I go for the latter. Moreover it does not need to be operated by air or electricity. Hahaha

Oh one more thing in case I did not cover ALL the possible TOUGH NUT CASE suituation for you, it pays to have a MAPP gas torch on standby just in case you need to get things much HOTTER to lossen up that CRAZED NUT!

Happy Nutting!

I have a 1/2 inch drive socket craftman beam torque wrench for the bigger nuts like the rear wheel axle nuts, I only need a socket hex bit for it, just that I am not exactly sure of the hex size. In the end I paid RM40 to the JB mech to change the brake disc for me, they were quite pro and jifty, with the correct tools i.e front paddock stand and torque wrench to properly torque the bolts.

The W400 stock battery finally gave up the ghost after 6.5 years.

I replaced it with a LiFePO4 battery I got from ebay.

The stock battery has a slight swollen case, sign of over-charging.

I've checked the charging voltage after installing the new battery, it was 13.3v idling, creeping to 14.5v and stay there under increasing engine rpm. Rectifier/Voltage regulator is working fine, I guess the slight over-charging is due to my riding habit. I usually ride continuously for 130km/2 hours whenever I fired up the engine.

Hope the new battery will last for another 6.5 years
