No big deal lah, I heard last time when you work as an apprentice in a motorcycle shop, one of the first assignments is wheel lacing. I think a simple wheel jig made from L angle bar should be sufficient.

Now I wash my bike parts in the domestic helper's bathroom when my wife is at home  but I still prefer to wash in the bathtub with hot water :thirsty:

You are the first bike hobbyist I come across who is so organise, tidy and meticulous. Your discipline surpasses even the japs.

Bro cougar, retirement is still many years ahead for me. Born in 1972, 37 this year I believe.

Fortunately I don’t make a living by repairing motorcycle http://i.pbase.com/v3/58/372658/1/51831617.rofl.gif

The rubber boot of the shifting lever wears faster than my tires. It starts to leave scratches on my riding boots so I am going to replace it with the spare that I bought from Kawasaki sometimes ago.

Things that you need to make life easier. Yes, that’s my favorite lubricant in my tool box.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN6261.jpg

Make a slit with the pen knife and bye bye to the 3 years old (20,000km) rubber boot.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN6264.jpg

I am stucked with the correct and scientific method of applying the lubricant, should I apply it on the female part?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v198/Phang/DSCN6265.jpg

Or the male part?

Done, got to clean up the trace and mess of the lubricant I left on the dining table before my wife came home.

Wow! I just read every single post about your maintenance...just got a 10 yr old w650 with 100+k on it...and researching about maintenance myself! Your posts are very encouraging...I'm gonna try some "squeezing" myself :).

Any tips on servicing the carbs?

I read on Captain Jake's blog about the modification of the carb with an additional shim and trimming off some obstruction in the airbox to improve air flow. Would love to hear your opinion.

Congrats on your new bike, W650 maintenance is relatively easy and straight forward.

Personally, I think W650 has a very well designed air box which kept most of the heavy debris from reaching the air filter elements. I am not sure about the power gain but I reckoned you will need to clean your air filter elements more often if you modify the air box like Captain Jake’s bike. Shimming the jet needle is the next mod following the air box mod as the engine is sucking more air due to the less restricted intake path.

W650 uses Keihin CVK series carbs with acceleration pump, plenty of information and instructions on the internet. My carbs are still virgin after 23,000km/4 years, you go ahead first, I’ll ask you for the tips when I service mine
