My Letter to Comfort Taxi

Dear Sir/Mdm

 

I wish to feedback on the driver of the above taxi. I am a rider of a blue Honda motorcycle bearing FBB525*D.

 

The incident happened on 22 August 07 @ 6.10 pm on AYE towards Jurong near AIA Building area.

 

It was drizzling and the road condition was heavy. I was on Lane 1 traveling behind other vehicles. The above mention taxi-driver came from my rear and flash his headlights. I continued riding my motorcycle as the traffic condition was heavy and switching lane abruptly does not seem the right move.

 

Within seconds, the taxi came close to my left and showed intention to overtake. He then attempted to move infront of my vehicle. I had to take evasive move, which was to slow down my motorcycle as quick as possible on a wet road without causing my wheels to lock, to avoid an immediate accident. I had horned him to show that it was dangerous to execute such a move while he was on my left till he moved infront of me. After he completed his inconsiderate and dangerous maneuver, he keep on waving his left hand to lane 2 indicating that I should move away.

 

From my understanding, he could be trying to ask me to move to the left and my observations reveals that the driver is a middle-age, Malay, male. The taxi continued to tail-gate the vehicles infront of him till I exited at Clementi Road.

 

I am very upset that your hirer displayed such poor attitude on the road when there is slow moving traffic. His move could have cause a life.

 

A motorcycle is a smaller vehicle and it must be respected on the road. There is no law stating that a motorcycle is not allowed to travel on lane 1 and I am deeply disturbed by the driver's action.

 

I strongly recommend that your company educate him on showing more road courtesy to other road users, especially smaller vehicles and take necessary action against this driver for showing such inconsiderate road behavior.

ya loh i also very tulan if i c him wave me to ask me move to the left. If it happen its wat i do to them since the traffic is heavy. I wil stop by his opposite side of the window, slightly knocked on the window n show him the "magic" finger. Then ride off as per normal BUT in between lanes which prevent him from chasing behind. If the TP sent letter or who-ever, tell them the reason. No offence will be charge as there is no damages/injuries caused.

This is just my opinion. I'm not siding the driver or anything. Since it was raining, I think it's wiser for us motorcyclist to take more precautions and ride safely, keeping to speeds that are safer and being able to control our bikes should any unforseen circumstances arises. Lane i is basically meant for overtaking and faster vehicles. I'm not saying that bikes can't be on lane 1. There are instances whereby I too rode on lane 1. But if it's raining, then I would rather stay on other lanes and only ride on lane 1 if all the other lanes are moving slowly. But I would ride at a speed that would not cause others to slow down because of me riding being slow.

one question, i have. u are in lane 1 (fast lane at the right), is there a line of traffic infront of you and u are following the traffic. Or are u road hogging lane 1?

 

Don't get offenced by the question. I have a feeling it is a whole line of traffic infront of you becos u say the traffic is heavy and it is raining (i was on that cte too).

 

i just want to make know to other that this incident happen not becos you are road hogging.

Please don't see yourself as "gutless" just because you do not go between cars. Its all about individual confidence. Just do what you deem is within your limit so that you will have a safe journey. If you prefer to stay with the traffic, so be it. If others prefer to take the risk and squeeze in between cars, so be it too. Just a matter of individual preference and not about who has more "gut"
