I've been looking for a budget ($200 or less) Full Face helmet that is PSB approved, and I'm surprised how hard it is. Most FF helmets are not PSB approved despite having international certifications.

I went to try several helmets at Motoworld. I was really happy to see the HJC $99 promo, until I found out that ALL of those $99 helmets were not PSB approved. When I asked, I was told that only helmets above $400 are PSB approved. Huh?

Went to Regina and LAB, but the helmets are all in cabinets with no price tags, making it hard for me to browse and try.

Anyway, after more research online, I've found the following FF helmets that are certified:

AGV Blade $180 Regina (still correct?)

Nolan N86 $230 Chong Aik (slightly above price range but still OK)

Nolan N64 $200 Chong Aik

Aramusha Viper Black only $168 Unique Motors

Are there any more? I'm going to go from place to place in the above list and try them out till I find one that is suitable. Thanks for any suggestions.

To get PSB approval... a vendor typically has to send about 20 pieces of his helmet for PSB to TEST... before it can be approved. Therefore... if you work out the maths...

for very rough example the $99 HJC helmet... based on my pure assumptions...

1. I import in 100 pieces. say 25 pieces in each size. S/M/L/XL. (Note that all these are prob DOT or SNELL certified)

2. Cost price per piece $50...

3. I plan to sell at $99. Profit = $50 which means i earn $5000... So 5K is the base line i must earn or maybe more because i need to pay my shop rent.

If i were to send 20 pieces to PSB for testing...

Means i will only have 80 pieces to sell...

Meaning i have to jack up the price to cover back my expenses... Which would mean the extra 1K must be distributed to that 80 pieces... So per piece i will need to add $12.5.

So instead of $100, now i'll have to charge $112.5. Which will be significantly costlier... and provided i sell every single one of those helmet... which is unlikely... and eventually the price will be $150 per piece to ensure i have sufficient buffet for my pocket...

Which is prob why only the more popular FF helmets will be sent to the PSB to get stickers cause they will prob sell more.

Ok. So now the interesting part. PSB sticker is only valid for Singapore, and since your insurance covers your head when on IMPACT and you have HEAD damage. You will need a PSB sticker on that helmet to have a insurance coverage on your head...

I seriously wonder how would a half face PSB stickered helmet compare against a FF non PSB stickered helmet compare when you really hit the floor...

I would think most people would rather have that FF on with a DOT. Than a half face with a PSB...

Your choice... your head vs cash on hand.

I'll take a FF anytime...

AGV blade is a FF? I thought it was more like a 3/4 back half face...

You can also check out helmet boys. They have FF/Flipup with PSB stickers.

I know there's alot of debate on cheap PSB helmets vs non-PSB approved FF. Obviously, the FF from any reputable maker will be safer than some cheap PSB approved open face helmet from LAB. Unfortunately, the law and insurance companies don't agree. What I do want is to find a safe FF that's also PSB approved. Best of both worlds.

The Cadberg Duke looks great, but I'm not sure sure if it's as safe as a FF. Most people seem to think FF are safer than flipups or modulars. I can imagine the hinge will be a weak spot.

For Flip Up users, do you actually use the flip up feature? Or is it an idea that sounds great on paper but rarely used?

For me i use it very often, weather here is especially hot in the afternoon, the flip up feature allow more air flow to me face hahaha, secondly it makes communicating easier with pillion. With full face I'veto speak really loud if not all they hear is mumbling

Though i have to agree that flip-up dont give as much protection as a FF helmet due to its joints.

Flip up are great if u wear specs... I guess... I wear specs most of the time but I still like the FF... As for talking. Get two sena 3s. $120 per piece. Can talk all u like... Hehe battery life quite good.

I don't give a crap about PSB, which is just another money making scam from the Govt. If a helmet is already DOT and ECE rated, no reason why PSB has to get their greedy hands in on the action. Personally, I got an overseas helmet and printed my own PSB label.

You may not give a crap about PSB, but the Traffic Police does, the law does, and most important of all, the insurance companies do. Personally, I feel that certifications by DOT, SNELL, SHARP, etc are as good or better than PSB, but the potential hassles, esp with insurance claims, makes me want to buy PSB approved helmets.

Imagine if you have head injuries from an accident, and the insurance companies refuse to pay out because your helmet is not PSB-approved, which makes your helmet illegal. Thus, you are committing an illegal act at the time of the accident, which means they can refuse to pay. Now there's a chance they'll still pay up, but there's a higher chance they'll refuse to pay or reduce the payment amount.

So who's going to pay your hospital bills then while you lie in hospital for weeks? Your family will have to absorb the cost, possibly tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of medical bills. If you die from your head injuries, your family won't get a cent. Think about it, and you'll know it makes sense to get a PSB approved helmet.

PS: printing your own label is fraud. If you get caught, it's a huge fine and possibly jail for misleading a police officer. It's far worse than simply not having the label.

Don't think they are having this promo. I was there maybe 2-3 weeks ago and their HJC helmets are either $99 unapproved ones, or pretty high end expensive ones. The lady told me that only those helmets that are $400 and above have PSB approval

Just got my Caberg Modus PSB approved helmet.

Bought this not because it's approved, but this is the only model that fits my head shape comfortably without pressure point. Different between non-PSB approval is the Double-D ring.

Where did you buy your Modus and how much? Thanks. :)

$220 @ Regena. Lucky my uncle brought me there. I think really good buy comparing Nolan N104 which is $280 but doesn't fit my head as well as Modus.
