Hi there, i wondered if anyone here has taken the battery off his bike.

I am also wondering if taking the battery off my bike is good, since it makes the bike lighter and i get less worry about frying it or being fully discharged.

i dont need the lightings when the bike is not started up yet and the bike is a kickstarter only, there's no need for electric start.

any disadvantages of removing the battery that anyone can tell me or point out?

thanks guys.

I didn't take mine out intentionally but I was simply too lazy to install. That was on my XL250. As long as the engine was started, even without battery, everything still works. Passed numerous inspections too.

yeah that was what i meant, used to ride a wr200 no battery at all. :giddy:

now riding a diff bike, felt that battery was redundant FOR ME, since the bike still generates power when engine is started, idling and during riding and voltage is still regulated by the RR.

then whats the battery on my bike for?? (I do not have any electrical starter!)

Generating lights when engine is not switched on? (keys on, engine off)

what i wanted to find out is whether this idea is possible or would the bike just explode or screw up something if i'm gonna ride without a battery.

thanks once again for those giving constructive comments. :thumb:

If it's not an EFI bike then the battery is not really important. Or if your bike has electrically powered valves etc like my RS250, it can work without battery but it works better with one.

How about IU? You need the battery for the IU to work.

i used to do that.. be warned.. its illegal.. and if get caught its a hefty fine.. for tampering with the IU..

yes some bikes can run without a battery.. but not all.. most of the time.. kick start bikes are the ones that people remove the battery.. but this results in more load for the rectifier and other electrical stuff.. but still possible..

vintage bikes which is going for the bare naked look and feel, often do that..

u cant expect a hayabusa to go without a battery and push starting it everytime right?

the battery is there for a reason.. so leave it... :)
