You gonna give up riding when ur coe expire in March bro? Or u gonna leave Sg?

Renew 10 year, and pray hard I get a job or transfer to the US, sell the bike and say goodbye to COE.

Car COE Cat A is down & bike going up. Looks like there are peeps who gave up cars n ride instead. My neighbour does that but I thought he's a rare one... seems like its quite common afterall.

With the uptrend of COE, the more economical option is to sell your 7/8 yr old bikes now, n use the cash for the downpayment of a new bike... then maintain the loan at your affordable/willingness level

planning to buy a new bike... anyone can think of a reason why COE wud come down?

My understanding is like 10 ppl bid for 4 coe... 3 ppl bid $1.. 3 ppl bid $10.. remaining 4 bid $100,$120, $150 and $200.. so the top 4 bidders wins.. but all 4 are paying $100 for their coe... so if all bik shop min bid 6k.. of cos the price wont drop...unless all cap their max bid at 3k.. then coe sure wont go above 3k..

Almost correct.. the final COE price is actually the highest unsuccessful bid plus S$1. So in ur example, the 4 successful bidders will pay only $11.

Most shops bid some COEs themselves to sell the bikes. At the same time, they also sell many bikes 1st then bid the COEs for their customers based on how much the customer wants to bid. Problem is prospective buyers are already comfortable with the current COE levels that's y they go bike shopping. Most would just tell the bike shops they are ok to pay within $200 to $500 of existing COE levels. That's y u get regular small increases on the bike COEs

few months ago SPF bought a few bikes for a new team (i think its anti terrorism or something like that)

was monitoring the COE and saw a few times the bid are more than 100+ against the quota.but the last round its only about 70 more bids.

really don't understand y so many ppl wants to buy new bikes... was at the driving centre last week n overheard learner riders mostly talking about buying new bikes.

more more ppl riding as a form of hobb/leisure, willing to spend more on bikes. Last time when car COE gets close to 100K, we see more continental cars on the road. Now, kind of similar for bikes at 6K COE level. so many GS, Ducatis and big bikes on the road now. Even among Honda, I see more NC750 than super 4 now.

Coz now bikes are made more 'affordable'. Back then rarely or never heard of someone having an instalment of 5 years for a 2B bike. Now its becoming a norm. Now just got licence buy new bike with a 5 year instalment. Fast forward one year later pass 2A then want to buy a new 2A bike but the old bike still under instalments. No problem still can buy. Just that monthly instalments a bit more only. And the cycle repeats. Some will justify the 6k+ COE by dividing it to 10 years then divide by months and days. So end up about 2 or so dollars a day. Still cheap.

Others simply look for people to COI. May seem like a huge amount at first but then slowly it will become a norm. Coz people 'accept' already. But then again to each its own.

Bros, sure the govt played dirty that caused the bike fleet to reduce from 2010. But its clear that the increase in COE is also because many are going for class 2 bikes, so feeling less of a % impact of the COE to total price.

From 2010 to 2015, the number of 2B bikes has reduced by 7% while number of class 2 bikes has increased by 117% ! That's more than double the numbers. Clearly the demographics of motorbike buyers have changed.

Number of class 2 bikes has increased year on year at an increasing rate and with such momentum, its likely to continue.

Those priced out of the bike market will turn to public transport or E bike. COE prices will continue to be pushed up by the new class 2 owners.

agree... that's y we see more BMW on the road... I just looked at LTA numbers. Surprisingly less Ducatis being registered. BMW population really growing very fast.

Used to be that there's more Ducatis being registered yearly. But this year BMW has more than 4 times the number of Ducatis being registered. Even Harley has more than Ducati now.

Everyone wants to 'own' a BMW. Cannot afford the car then the bike will do. Use for a few years then new model come out or cannot afford to maintain or COE ending then sell off.

Tell a woman who knows nothing abt bikes that you own a Triumph and see her expression, then you will understand why many prefers BMW or Harley.
