Hi everyone, I'm new to this SBF so please pardon me if I post this question under the wrong thread. Anyway, is there any chance for the COE of bikes to go down in the near future?

Unless govt change its policy, the chance is 0

Yes, bike COE can go down. If everybody here just holds back on buying a bike for the next 3 or 4 months.

As observed in another thread, bids start from $1 and they go up progressively as dealers compete.

If the demand does not meet the supply, then the lowest $1 bid will stand. In other words, if there are less bids than the available COEs, the lowest bid will be that PQP.

Once the COE resets to $1, you can be sure that for the next few exercise dealers will bid more conservatively.

Keep demand low for another couple of months, and you reset the trend.

Now whether people can hold back their desire to get a new bike, that's another thing.

It is absurd! Now bike COE price costs more than a class 2B bikes itself. Let's just do our part, hold back from buying new bike for a few months like what DeusExMachina says. If bike sales are not moving, COE price may fall, eventually.

All I can say is you are thinking of the impossible

I support you. Look at the COE result, 280 plus Coe but 300 plus bidder mean a lot of people's are bidding above 5000 plus to secure the Coe. I believe a lot of people willing to pay high price so the chance of Coe coming down is very slim. This is just my thoughts and I will be very happy is the Coe really come cashing down.

Hello, are you there......

When there's an economic crisis, coe price usually come down steep. Happened once in 2003.

if I am not wrong, there's no VEP for S'pore registered bikes.

Welcome to democracy, where the minority obeys the majority.

Come to think of it, every Singaporean said this in our pleadge, so ll cannot say "I never say" :)

Well I didn't vote for them.

I think in the short term it may go up a little to maybe 7-8k but it is probably hard to sustain 10k range. Majority bikes are 2B and some 10+% class 2. With high coe prices, its hard for students, lower income earners and part time workers to buy new bike, pushing some demand over to second hand market. We now see shops like Unique advertising to acquire old bikes, betting on making profit.

As with cars, when coe gets too high, cat B luxury cars continue to sell and cat A small cars harder to sell. Likewise, class 2 bike buyers are less affected by coe. The bike already so ex. Not much difference.

I think the small percentage of tourers, track bikers and commuters passionate about bikes is insufficient to sustain 10k price range for coe. I've renewed my coe when it was 1.7k and have 9 yrs to go. So, the prices don't concern me anyway. Have never bought a first hand bike either.

P-plate should be an attitude to safety and riding. There's always more to learn.

if the COE uses an old COE on your new bike, will there be a double transfer?

Dont quite understand your question.
