Enquiries on motorcycle helmets

Good day to all riders here in SBF.

Recently came across a helmet which caught my interest.

It's DOT approved but non psb approved and my bike shop lady said before wearing non psb approved helmet cannot claim insurance if accident.

My point here is to ask , cannot claim insurance for helmet during accident or cannot claim for vehicle ?

And if I'm stop by TP for non psb approved helmet , any demerit points or just fine of some money? Hopefully can receive some replies . Thanks!
