There is this news form lian he zao bao (联合早报) on 6th May 2015 that I wish to share. It stated that for motorbike once you opt to pay 5 years COE for your existing bike the next 5 years cannot be extend! Is ether you pay for 5 years or 10 years!

** Anyone saw this piece of new in the Straits Time or any English, Malay or Indian paper? Can anyone translate the news in English so that our Malay and Indian friends will understand better?

As I knew Commercial Vehicle allow!

If in 1994 LTA transfer 3610 Category D(bike) to Car Category, then by right they should give priority to motorist as most of motorist who wish to keep their working and well maintain condition bike for another 10 years but only can afford to pay 5 years cash they should be able to extend another 5 years later! Of course some ppl that can afford to buy new bike no one can stop them purchase a new bike!

Bike are basically helping lower income or very small company as a transport, If you read the news if you understand 70% are those having below 200cc bikes!

car and bike, before you renew the 5 years COE,

LTA already inform that non-renewable COE after that 5 years.....

many riders cannot renew their bikes for 10 years, decide to renew for only 5 years. then a few months later decide to sell. i as a buyer am always scared of buying 5 years only bikes because say nearly 1 years coe end, the bike needs major repair, should i or should'nt i.

Scrap la. You still get your pro-rated COE rebate exactly like a renew 10 years bike.

zalk. sometime the value of the other parts are more expensive and selling parts are not so easy if we dekit them

prob when previous owner renew coe at the old 1-2K coe level but sell bike basis current COE level. So when scrap bike with 1/2 yr left, u get back very little vs the yearly depreciation calculation at your purchase point

Liverpool revival has started....

But if you buy a 5 year renewed bike you're already going to have to scrap it once the five year period is up isn't it? So it's just a question of sooner or later.

Then you have to be smart and calculate the price the COE is renewed at, which can be easily checked on one motoring with the plate number. And then nego fairly. Don't pay excessively over the price the coe is renewed at. Right now, if you pay about 1-2k more than the paper value still okay. But you must be mentally prepared to lose that money when COE crash, which you still lose less than buying a new bike for 12-13k.

this is not new, its the same for car

once u renew 5 yrs, u have to scrap after that

if u renew 10 yrs, u can continue to renew

OIC, so those who has budget will only go for 5 years :(

Wow then for those uncles who only need a basic bike will have to calculate and calculate again! :(

Some or in fact most ppl (70%) of the bikes in Singapore are below 200cc we just want a basic bike as a transport will have to be stress by calculation how much the loose for COE!

Should the LTA should return 1994 transfer 3610 Category D(bike) to Car Category, so that price for COE won't be so high?

Why would they want to do that? 3610 x $6,500 vs 3610 x $70,000

You do the math. If I'm the CEO of a big corp, why would I wanna earn less profit? hahah

You will see some trade and business that uses bike will extinct in Singapore like on the bike ice man.......etc

I hate to see Singapore always remind of what the olden years that we have but thing are being extinct due to what reason? If our country like to talk about everything is new and demolish old building, why are we keep reminding the old!

Some old trades still exist in our neighboring countries and is sad you can't see here!

Meh, big bikes will still be around but motorcycle passion here doesn't compare to our next door neighbour, look they have more than one dealers for a single marque and go by international warranty unlike the one here, a monopoly, they have an international racetrack, we got a casino that screws locals.

Anyway, in due time, this country will empty itself out, Singapore is already culturally dead, soon enough all Singapore will ever be will be a host to other countries and nothing more. When countries like Phillipines, China get more developed, they would have no need for Singapore. Then we're screwed forever because we never built ourselves.
