Hi rex & all...Just to share some watch area when taking delivery of your new Versys from my experience when i took mine from bikeshop.

1. Tyre pressure too low >>> affecting handling.

2. Chain tension very tight >>> gear change need alot of effort, not smooth... notchy feeling.

3. EO level abit on the low side >>> experience EO warning light flickering on a few occasions.

4. Radiator coolant leakage from connecting hose to engine as i can see dried up streak of coolant on engine block.

Cheers

wow! I never had of those issues when i rolled out mine. It was my 1st parallel twin, i was like grinning all the way home.

good tips to note. Upzs for the V

anyway, i miss wildcard.

hey guys..im very interested in getting this bike...

Some of my queries as follows:-

1)Any reviews on how this bike perform offroad?

2) And i realise that the endcan is rather low (and wierdly placed?)..haha..

anyway, are there any aftermarket exhaust that would so called "elevate" the ground clearance of it?

3) Are there any "neccessary" mods required for touring purposes?

Any info is very much appreciated..thanks!

Not built for off road. It is MPB (multi purpose bike) Good for transport and touring. After market exhaust raised up a bit but if there is flood u still have to stuck a hose in lolx ...:thirsty:

Tonnes of mod to do, you may want to go to the Versys uk forum for reference.

Haha..thanks for the info bro!

i know that this bike aint meant for hardcore offroad riding...but what abt light trailing?

i heard that the ABS would have some effect?

at the same time, i will also take a look at the uk forum as suggested...thanks!

These issues are not Show Stoppers and are easily fixed...probably i think are attributed at the assembly line since we know the Vs are now output from Thailand.

Am still grinning whenever i am riding e Versys.

Anyway rumors are circulating that there will be a 1000 Versys available soon.

More choices are always better and i think it is not a replacement for the 650 but additional choices for consumers just like the Suzuki's VStorms.

As it is now, personally to me the Versys 650 is a bloody damn competent all round bike as a run around in SGP and the occasional trip up north.

Google and you will find that the 1st Gen Versys won the MOTY award back in 2008 and the 2nd Gen Versys out gun more bigger expensive machines not too long ago in a Bike magazine comparison shootout as highlighted by inmate swoosh.

2nd EO change at 1800km to Maxima Extra4 10W40 synthetic yield some improvement over the mineral EO used for running in.

3rd EO change at 4800km to Motul V300 10W40 synthetic return the most awesome improvement over Maxima Extra4 synthetic in terms of engine and gear transmission performance.

Did not believe all the hype abt the Motul V300 until i tried it in my Versys.

Hey guys, not sure if there is still activity here but I think it's the only dedicated thread for the Versys on SBF so here goes a few questions if you don't mind :

1. How many and which shops sell it brand new ? (please spell the name completely, I might not know them, so I can google their address)

2. Do they all carry the latest model and all the colors ?

3. I read some riders get a MY registration for their bike, does that mean the bike is bought in MY and they ride it here ? (sorry if I misunderstood..)

4. Do you all service your bike or repair it in MY? Any local bikeshop you would recommend that would know the Versys and would do a good job at it ?

5. How are the stock tyres ? Do you recommend to change them off the bat for better grip and safety or not ?

6. Could you please give me a rough idea of the price for the following accessories :

- engine crash bar

- hand guards

- rear rack

- new sprocket and chain kit to get a better long travels comfort and FC

- new windshield

7. Are there any parts of the bike you would recommend to change from the stock (like mirrors, brake line, lights etc...) ?

That's it for now, many thanks in advance for taking the time to answer :)

hi, i bought mine from louis motor @ kaki bukit.

i not sure if they still have stock.. but i would recommend u not to go to the arthorise dealer to buy kawa bike their service sucks..

u cant find the older model liao so sure is the later model, colour wise i tink only got maroon and black.

eh MY register? i dun tink so la.. unless u are a MYsian if not u cant ride MY bike in sg.

normal serving any shop will do la.. no need go to any special de.

repair depend on wat stuff lor, tis type of thing very indi de, everybody go diff shop

but there is a kawa agent in JB, shop name is motormatic motor enterprise, u can call the guy @ +02 012 717 1779, man

address is 33 jalan pendekar 2, taman ungku tun aminah, 81300 skudai

the stock tyre some ppl prefer to change la, but there are ppl who use them w/o problem..

for me i changed to pilot road 2

crash bar ~200

hand guard ~200

rear rack depends which type u wan, givi i got from KL is 445RM

chain spocket ~300

windshield ~150

nothing much to change for the stock items la.. all quite good in its stock condition..

windshield will be a good 1st thing to change if u travel, if not in sg the stock will be good enough jus adjust the angle.

Thanks a lot Ben for the reply.

For the bikeshop where to service the bike I'm thinking carburetor wash and other more in depth maintenance I'm sure the bike will need after a few k km. Oil change, tyre pressure, air filter and chain tightening I think I can do (learn it if very diff from other bikes). But the more complex things I wouldn't be able to do.

Also, parts : where do you guys get them? Not talking about the oil filter or tyres, but let's say you need a new clutch cable or gear lever or gasket seal or fuel main jet or something like that. Do you have to get it from a Kawasaki dealer (where is it in SG ?) or you can find these parts sold elsewhere ?

Is it cheaper overseas ? I understand the Versys is now assembled (fully made?) in Thailand, is it cheaper to get parts from there ?

The prices in SG for anything bike related are so expensive it makes a rider wanna move out of the country

Oh, and is there a place I can download a copy of the owner manual for a recent version of the Versys and is there a workshop manual for it ?

Again, thank you for your prompt and detailed reply :)

sg sure very exp for parts..

best if u can find it in thailand, if not at least get from MY...

bangkok i believe can find many versys, in MY KL around u can find many too..

u can go malaysia verys forum read up u can get help there in regards to part finding in malaysia.

shop to go repair i will recommend u go the shop i posted above..

many kawa 14 GTR riders go there to service their bikes..

and its recommended by many sg kawa riders.

Ok sounds good. Not getting a Versys yet, I need to get my class 2 first (have to wait until next March). But the Versys seems like a very good tourer with a decent FC.

The idea is to buy it in the US to tour USA, Canada and maybe South America (although maybe for the latter a more enduro/off road bike could be better).

But I might want to get a second hand one here in SG to familiarize myself with it for 2-3 months before the touring trip. (which would ideally happen in the summer/fall 2012).

What is the price for a 2009 or 2010 second hand Versys these days ? I hope to be able to sell it myself after 2-3 months of riding at a price close to the one I bought it at: is it realistic?

currently there isn't much ppl selling this bike.. reason i dunno why, mayb resale value low thats why dun wan sell so as to not lose so much money

or mayb this bike is good enough and dun wan sell or change bike.

but demand for 2nd hand versys is there i believe.. i tink if some1 were to post sale for a 2nd hand versys now sure got ppl consider buying if the price is right

price for a 2nd hand 1 will cost about 16k?

Posted

Yeah The drop in price might explain it - but also I believe it's not a popular Bike in SG. People who want power will go for more sporty bikes or more muscular ones. SG prices are not following the original machine price. You can get a Ducati monster for 25k, why would you go for a 21-22k Versys if you can grab a Ducati ?

So Versys riders here are probably mid long travel tourers who go often to MY or Thailand. The Versys doesn't really justify it's SG price to only be used in the short limited highways and stop-and-go traffic...

Actually if got one that's reasonably priced i'd buy it. But too bad all the recent sellers don't understand how depreciation works!

They probably do, but they also understand how offer and demand work ;)

How much were you quoted, for what year model and what mileage ?

Hahah i'd rather not say la. I just say buy new is cheaper : )

Well if it's not older than 2009, 16k would still be some 6k saved over a new one. So if the mileage isn't crazy high it could be a good thing if I only plan to ride it here to get used to it and resell it , don't you think?
