Why is the gear indicator so important? I never had a big bike before so max gears I've ever had to shift is 5. But I thought the gear indicator was just a gadget probably more useful to very new riders and that experienced riders could keep track of their gears.

Or is it that it's less easy on a big bike to do so?

 

Equally the temperature indicator should be only useful in case you need to troubleshoot an issue, right? Or does the Versys have heating up symptoms if riding in traffic jams for example?

 

Haha, cause I have a tendency to shift into the "7th" gear. Since the GSR400 already comes with an OEM gear indicator, I have a dependency on it. It also serves me well as I do know which gear I am in at split second notice, should there be a need to up shift and down shift on short notice.

 

The temperature gauge should be more important as it'll tells you how warm is the engine (coolant) when starting up rather than estimation. Also, it will provide relatively accurate temperature (from the coolant) information when cruising and street riding, thus able to gauge whether is there a need to change the coolant or something more is up. Rather than waiting for sure signs of overheating.

For gear indicator, you can try unique motor to get the GiPro.

I don't have any experience with alarm system. I am also planning to install one. I should be visiting MotorWorld to see see tomorrow.

Try Albert Motors at Alexandra...last heard from a friend awhile ago they have 2 yellow/black 2012 model.

I got the SPY 5000 from Motoworld, not bad but honestly there isn't much use in SG. I've got it disabled most of time.

Using the spy alarm as well. $140 with installation at moto world ubi last I checked. Easy to setup and use and pretty loud, with a remote.

 

How about some locks as well? I noticed in malaysia even for big bikes riders tend to prefer locks: disc lock, u-lock on the front and rear wheel, or big chains.

The last trip I used a big lock and chain. When I stop at the carpark of the hotel, my first priority was to find a strong structure to secure the Versys. If I am unable to do so, I will secure it to my friend's bike.

Agreed. Same reason I got mine.

 

Like the chain idea too but isn't it a bit of hassle to bring around with you. The U-lock might be the way to go.
