Hi friends...

One of my forks was leaking badly and the fork itself had to be changed cos of wear and tear (rust) on the tube itself, changing the seal would have still allowed leakage of fork oil...

fork seals, dust covers, fork oil for both forks plus one brand new fork tube (is that whats its called?...) for a whopping grand total of $270!

Anyway enough of the long story.....

What I am wondering is, is there any harm in changing just one side of the forks? Will it be unbalanced now? Anything I can or should do to check it out properly? Or should I get the other side changed to new one as soon as I can afford it?

Anybody do this b4 pls advice me...! Some people have been telling me that it will be unbalanced if change only one side, dangerous etc etc.

Is tt true??

recommended for fork service is every year for an seal+dust covers and oil change. and handlebar vibration has nothing to do with it.

Stock is good...Choose your weapon wisely and enjoy it...you can have all the $$$$ to mod and in the end you can't make full use of it....

u dun need to change the whole fork if the fork still leaking despite new fork seals, dust covers and fork oil. its the copper bushing which is worn off.

not true. a worn out bushing would not create a leak.

an oil leak on a fork will only occur if the seal is worn out, OR improper installation of the oil seals.

advice taken from mezzo and knt. worn bushing main cause of the oil leak not the seal. up to u, juz sharing from the pros opinion.

there are 2 types bushings in a fork.. fork tube bushing and fork leg bushing.

i was referring to the fork leg bushing.. it looks like we aren't referring to the same bush. :cheeky:

and yes, IF the fork tube bushing is worn, a leak will occur. but at a very slow rate as compared to a seal failure.

just to add on, reputable suspension service center will recommend you to change the fork tube bushing, together with the oil seals and dustcover. it might be abit more costly, but well, at least it assures you that it wouldn't leak, unless installation is not done properly.

Pls enlighten me... how does a worn "fork tube bushing" cause a leak. I assume you are refering to the lower bushing.
